MILPITAS, CA — (Marketwired) — 10/17/13 — FireEye, Inc. (NASDAQ: FEYE), the leader in stopping today-s advanced cyber attacks, announced FireEye® Mobile Threat Prevention, a new cloud-based platform designed to address threats from the mobile vector. The new product, which secures the Android platform, will be generally available by the end of 2013.
According to Google, more than 1 million Android apps are currently available for download and they have been downloaded more than 50 billion times to more than 1 billion devices. The diverse sources of these apps pose security and privacy risks.
“Enterprises aren-t just concerned about the smartphones and tablets they procure and issue to employees, but they are also dealing with employee-owned devices and the realization that they must secure their own content, data, and applications on a majority of devices they do not own,” said Charles Kolodgy, research vice president, security products with IDC.
FireEye Mobile Threat Prevention is designed to detect and report mobile threats. Rather than relying on malware signatures — which are ineffective against today-s fast-moving, constantly changing threats — the platform detonates Android apps within the FireEye Multi-Vector Virtual Execution (MVX) engine to provide automated mobile threat assessment. This threat assessment enables customers to make informed decisions and enforce security policies in their mobile environment.
The unique capabilities of FireEye Mobile Threat Prevention include:
A concise assessment of an app-s behavior, including hidden malicious and unwanted functionality.
Contextual analysis to connect disparate actions designed to form a full picture of the app-s unwanted behaviors and uncover the hidden malicious behaviors embedded deep within the app.
On-demand threat assessments for both custom apps and apps available in public or enterprise app stores.
An app threat database containing detailed app behaviors for more than 1 million apps.
Play-by-play analysis of suspicious apps to enable security professionals to dissect detailed app behaviors.
APIs to connect with mobile management and endpoint solutions for integration.
Threat intelligence sharing through the FireEye Dynamic Threat Intelligence (DTI) cloud for multiple threat vectors such as Web, email, and files.
“Today-s cybercriminals are using all the resources at their disposal to compromise an organization and steal intellectual property,” said Dawn Song, FireEye fellow and associate professor of computer science at UC Berkeley. “These blended attacks encompass various vectors: email, Web, file, and increasingly the mobile vector. Traditional security defenses fail when advanced malware gets increasingly complicated and dynamic. FireEye Mobile Threat Prevention has a unique approach to address these problems.”
Recently, FireEye discovered a rapidly-growing class of mobile threats affecting Android apps with more than 200 million downloads. For more information: .

has invented a purpose-built, virtual machine-based security platform that provides real-time threat protection to enterprises and governments worldwide against the next generation of cyber attacks. These highly sophisticated cyber attacks easily circumvent traditional signature-based defenses, such as next-generation firewalls, IPS, anti-virus, and gateways. The provides real-time, dynamic threat protection without the use of signatures to protect an organization across the primary threat vectors, including mobile, Web, email, and files and across the different stages of an attack life cycle. The core of the FireEye platform is a virtual execution engine, complemented by dynamic threat intelligence, to identify and block cyber attacks in real time. FireEye has over 1,100 customers across more than 40 countries, including over 100 of the Fortune 500.
