MENLO PARK, CA — (Marketwired) — 10/08/13 — Agawi, the app streaming company that introduced streaming mobile applications from the cloud to touch devices, today announced that the new Kindle Fire HD released on October 2 has a faster touchscreen than more expensive flagship Android tablets from Google and Samsung.
Agawi-s findings are part of its latest TouchMarks benchmark that measures touchscreen latency of popular smartphones and tablets. Most discussions on touchscreen displays are about pixels per inch and quality of image. Agawi has created the world-s first benchmark that measures how fast a touchscreen responds to touch — as important a factor as display image quality.
report measures the Minimum App Response Time (MART) scores of popular tablets, and the results are surprising. The iPad mini, with a response time of only 75 milliseconds, is more responsive by a factor of 2X when compared to the Google Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.
However, in another surprising show of performance, the new Kindle Fire HD touchscreen also beat the more expensive Google Nexus 7 and the Galaxy Tab 3.
Agawi is making the benchmark, and the methodology, openly available on its, and invites the industry to join in outlining future TouchMarks benchmarks that it plans to publish.
“App responsiveness is judged by how quickly an app can respond to your touch inputs,” said Rohan Relan, co-founder and CEO of Agawi. “MART scores are really important in understanding how fast a touch device can possibly respond to your touch, even if the app is doing absolutely nothing else.”
How TouchMarks Measures Response Time
Agawi specializes in providing technology that runs rich, interactive apps in the cloud and streams them to iOS, Android and WP8 mobile devices. In order to make sure that adding cloud based processing to a smartphone app is acceptable to an end user, Agawi-s team of engineers from Stanford and Netflix had to build a device they call a Touchscope to measure the response times of touchscreens to an accuracy level of +/-4 milliseconds to get the MART score of the device, and then add the cloud processing response time to calculate the end-to-end user perceived response time.
