Veveo Awarded New Patent for Generating Personalized Cross-Platform Recommendations

ANDOVER, MA — (Marketwired) — 10/07/13 — , a leading provider of semantic technologies to bridge the usability gap in connected devices and applications with intelligent search, discovery and personalization , announced today that it has been awarded a new patent in the field of personalized recommendations by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). This marks the tenth patent awarded to Veveo this year and brings its total count of issued patents to 42.

The patent entitled, (USPTO number ), establishes how preferences learned from use of one content system by a user can be utilized to generate personalized recommendations for the user for content available in another system. In addition to mapping a user-s preferences across systems, the method includes determining relationships between content items across the different systems. The patent extends Veveo-s innovations in hyper-personalization capabilities required for making search, discovery and recommendations elegant in usability for large, complex content libraries in an era of multi-platform connectivity and cloud-based services.

An example of an application covered by the patent would be a system that learns a user is interested in the New England Patriots, based on web search and browsing activity. Or the user may follow New England Patriots on Twitter or tweet about them, or follow them on Facebook. Automatically, in another application such as a personalized channel guide on a television service, the user is recommended New England Patriots games, or displayed a New England Patriots scorecard on the user-s smartphone application.

This approach provides a unified, personalized experience across all of a user-s smart connected devices with intelligent recommendations and increased personalization. The consumer may use these devices for different purposes, but at the end of the day the devices need to perform in a unified way to provide the most benefit and elegant user experiences.

“This patent illustrates how Veveo is innovating across the entire connected-device ecosystem with the user at the center, rather than point solutions that can leave users with fragmented experiences across their multiple connected devices,” said Murali Aravamudan, founder and CEO of Veveo. “Veveo has continued to innovate in hyper-personalized discovery, required to make usability predictive, semantic and intelligent in this era of advancing cloud and cross-platform connectivity.”
