SPRINGDALE, OH — (Marketwired) — 09/26/13 — In 1968, when Thomas M. Nies approached a bank for funding his new software technology company, the banker thought he was opening a women-s lingerie store. Needless to say, Nies didn-t get the loan. Instead, he chose to courageously self-fund the startup of Cincinnati-s first modern software technology company, ().
As Cincom celebrates its 45th anniversary next week, the company is preparing for its next phase by focusing on building more indirect sales channels and personalizing its products for specific industries.
Just last year, Cincom became the only independent software supplier to be chosen as a member of the Microsoft® Global Independent Software Vendor (ISV) program in the manufacturing sector for both Microsoft Dynamics® AX and Microsoft Dynamics® CRM.
This global partnership not only makes it easier for Cincom products to integrate with the popular Microsoft Dynamics AX and CRM, but it also allowed for Cincom to build and introduce this year its new enterprise resource planning (ERP) product, Cincom Total. Built upon Microsoft Dynamics AX, Cincom Total is an ERP software specifically designed for advanced manufacturers.
“Our Microsoft partnership turned into a catalyst for our company,” says Nies, President and CEO, Cincom Systems. “It not only helped us advance our product technology, but it-s also introduced us to Microsoft-s large ecosystem of partners. This has truly helped us to expand our own partner network.”
In the last 12 months, Cincom Systems has more than doubled its number of new signed partner contracts in the U.S. from the prior two years combined. In each of fiscal years 2011 and 2012, Cincom signed six new partners. In the current fiscal year (October 2012 – September 2013), Cincom has contracted with more than 20 new partners ranging from resellers to technical partners.
“Resellers allow us to expand into new markets we wouldn-t otherwise invest in with a direct sales strategy,” says Nies. “It provides us a lower cost of entry and spreads business risk across the ecosystem.”
Michael Shields, President and CEO of Cincom partner, eLogic Group, explains why his company partners with Cincom. “One of our key responsibilities for our customers is to provide the best technology enablers for their environment. Together, [Cincom and eLogic Group] are able to do things faster, better and cheaper for our customers.”
Cincom has chosen a conservative approach to selecting new partners.
“While it-s less expensive overall, it does take a lot of time and up-front investment to get each partner up and running,” says Todd Williams, a Cincom partner manager. “But if done well, it pays off in the end.”
Williams cites the example of one reseller partner who in the past year has brought in two deals worth more than one million dollars each.
Some of Cincom-s new partners include Workforce Management Software Group, PlanetTogether, RF-SMART, Intelliverse, Barry-Wehmiller International Resources, Dynamicweb North America and InfoMagnetics Technologies.
Cincom will hold its 45th anniversary celebration ceremony on October 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its global headquarters at 55 Merchant Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45246.
