SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 09/23/13 — Oracle OpenWorld — Oracle (NYSE: ORCL)

Incorporating Big Data into your enterprise can result in opportunities to transform your business, but the growing volume and complexity of Big Data can also pose a challenge. Through Oracle-s Unified Information Architecture, customers can easily and cost-effectively integrate Hadoop and NoSQL platforms with their data warehousing and business analytics solutions to maximize the value of Big Data. While Hadoop provides a scalable foundation for Big Data projects, the lack of built-in security has been an obstacle for many enterprises. To meet this need, Oracle has enhanced the Oracle Big Data Appliance to include enterprise-class security capabilities for Hadoop. Oracle is also announcing new versions of Big Data Connectors and Oracle NoSQL Database, which provide enhanced functionality, performance and scalability.

Oracle Big Data Appliance now offers integrated enterprise security with pre-configured Kerberos authentication, LDAP based authorization, and robust centralized auditing with .

By consolidating and analyzing the Hadoop audit trail, Oracle Audit Vault and Database Firewall can enforce policies to alert suspicious or unauthorized activities. Additionally, the consolidated audit data allows organizations to demonstrate the controls and generate the reports needed for regulatory compliance and audits.

Additionally, Oracle Big Data Appliance now includes updates to Hadoop, Oracle Big Data Connectors and , which improve performance and scalability, and simplify management, enabling users to manage and analyze Big Data quickly and effortlessly, while minimizing risk. Features and functionalities include:

Oracle XQuery for Hadoop, a new addition to Oracle Big Data Connectors, enables standard XQuery operations to process and transform XML documents, executing in parallel across the Hadoop cluster.

The addition of generalized linear models and factor analysis algorithms to the Oracle R Connector for Hadoop coupled with 5x performance improvements in custom R-based MapReduce execution enable organizations to rapidly build complex predictive models with Big Data.

Perfect Balance, a new performance feature of Oracle Big Data Appliance, intelligently detects data skew and balances reducer loads, enabling faster MapReduce job execution.

: Available now, the latest version of allows parallel data scans, significantly reducing the time spent on database scans. Oracle NoSQL Database now includes support for highly requested customer features, including multiple data centers to simplify and automate data distribution.

“Hadoop systems and NoSQL databases have proven to be ground-breaking technology for Big Data management. However, most solutions on the market cannot withstand the stringent demands of the enterprise where security is absolutely essential and can-t be compromised,” said Çetin Özbütün senior vice president, Data Warehousing and Big Data Technologies, Oracle. “With the latest enhancements to Oracle Big Data Appliance, Oracle is addressing the enterprise-grade security and performance needs customers require in Big Data solutions.”
