Lindner FLOOR and more® a part of the new University and State Library of the University Darmstadt

The new building of the University and State Library Hessen at Darmstadt Technical University (TU) arose with an investment of 74 million Euros. Therefore it opened as one of Germany”s most modern university buildings with approximately 80 kilometers of shelves with about 2.5 million books and magazines.

For most floor systems available on the market the high loads incurred create irresolvable problems.
However, the implementation is predestined for Lindner FLOOR and more® power. Architect and builder decided for Lindners Hollow Floor for heavy duty, since it was the imaginably safest subsoil for the precious books of the Federal State of Hessen.

Beyond that, more than 600 workstations for standing and sitting activities are arranged on the
openly designed gallery. For highly frequented areas the builder decided to use FLOOR and more® comfort with integrated floor heating. Heating and cooling systems incorporated into the floor panels which entail energy savings regulate the interior climate perfectly – both in summer and winter. Further advantages of the floor systems are a rapid reaction time, good heat reflection and high levels of efficiency.

This project impressively reflects flexibility and variety of Lindner Hollow Floors: Partly, FLOOR and
more®, FLOOR and more® power (10 kN- and 20 kN-type) as well as FLOOR and more® comfort power had to be combined in one area. Even FLOOR and more® hydro was applied in some areas.

To ensure the stock of books” longterm conservation all shelving systems of the library are ventilated from below. This lead to high building service installation density. Hence delivery and installation of our floors happened “just in time” in coordination with the furnisher of building services. Floor openings have already been EXW custom-fit adjusted to the air ducts.

Altogether, more than 15,000 m² Lindner Hollow Floors with different types of carpet, stone and
parquet covering were installed, including the ready-for-use connection of the floor heating to the
building services. The Lindner Group contributed that this magnificent building has been a big success.
