PernixData to Exhibit First Flash Hypervisor and Speak on Various Storage and Virtualization Design Topics at VMworld 2013

SAN JOSE, CA — (Marketwired) — 08/21/13 — , the leader in virtualizing server flash, today announced details around the company-s presence at VMworld 2013, the world-s leading virtualization and cloud infrastructure event, taking place August 25-29 in San Francisco. A silver sponsor, PernixData will be located at Booth #2011. At this location, the company will be demonstrating PernixData FVP, the industry-s first Flash Hypervisor, and providing exclusive access to the much anticipated guidebook, Tweet-sized vSphere Design Considerations. In addition, PernixData employees will be leading several talks throughout the show on key data center topics, including flash virtualization and software-defined data centers. Through these various activities, PernixData is showing how companies of all sizes can re-architect their storage environments using virtualized server side flash for scale-out storage performance.

PernixData technology experts will be available in Booth #2011 to provide live demonstrations of the company-s flagship product, PernixData FVP. This software virtualizes all server side flash into a clustered acceleration tier that enables IT administrators to quickly, easily and cost-effectively scale-out storage performance completely independent of storage capacity. The result is unprecedented read and write performance for all virtual machines (VMs), without the need to change existing server and storage infrastructure.

Premiering at VMworld 2013, “Tweet-sized vSphere Design Considerations” is a pocket-sized book compiled by PernixData technology evangelist Frank Denneman with best practice design advice from leading vExperts around the globe. The book will be available exclusively from 4pm to 5pm every day in the PernixData booth. VMworld attendees are encouraged to come by PernixData-s booth to get a free hardcopy of the guidebook and meet some of the vExpert contributors.

To pre-order an electronic version of the book (which will be distributed after the show), please go .

Several PernixData employees have been invited to present on various technical topics throughout the VMworld show. Specific sessions include:

Frank Denneman, Technology Evangelist for PernixData
Andrew Mitchell, Consulting Architect with VMware Professional Services
Mark Achtemichuk, Senior Technical Marketing Architect for VMware
Mostafa Khalil, Senior Engineer for VMware
Michael Webster, Strategic Architect for VMware
Monday, August 26, 12:30 – 1:30 pm
*Note: second repeat session to be scheduled
Moscone West, Room 3018
Designing and architecting an environment that will host many Monster VM-s requires a different approach and different considerations to smaller VM-s to ensure you get the best benefits from the platform. This discussion will focus on the design and architecture best practices and design guidance that applies when you are virtualizing many high utilization, high performance Monster VM-s. The panel will answer questions on topics such as host and cluster design and sizing, VM sizing, performance tuning, CPU scheduling, memory management, resource management, storage design, and much more. Avoid the common traps that could derail your Monster VM virtualization project.

Kaustubh Patil, PernixData R&D

This presentation will discuss the benefits of server-side flash for storage acceleration, and how a Flash Hypervisor can overcome key challenges associated with vMotion, HA, VM snapshots, and VM backups using clustering technology. In addition, it will go into detail on how a Flash Hypervisor manages cache policies, fault tolerance and cache coherency, as well as perform per-VM WriteThrough and WriteBack capabilities.

This session will discuss the problem with today-s storage performance designs and how flash virtualization is making an impact on such designs. It will show the “physics” behind storage network latency due to LUN queues, HBA queues, buffers, port/disk queues and network contention, and discuss options for addressing these using a scale-out data tier that leverages server flash.

Chethan Kumar, PernixData R&D

This session will discuss the performance characteristics of a data acceleration tier provisioned in a cluster of vSphere hosts. It will first introduce the I/O characteristics of some common enterprise workloads, and then examine the performance of these workloads in presence of the acceleration tier. Different classes of workloads — read heavy, read/write mix, and write heavy — will be used to discuss the performance improvements attributed with this acceleration tier. The talk will also address how to scale-up and scale-out performance in this new architecture.
