AUSTIN, TX — (Marketwired) — 08/19/13 — To meet its delivery timeline and electrical design requirements, a global manufacturer of oil and gas drilling products has selected Active Power-s (NASDAQ: ACPW) PowerHouse solution to support the expansion of its two modular data centers at one of its facilities located in the southwestern U.S. The customer and Active Power have completed deployment of a second set of two PowerHouse systems which include two standby diesel generators as part of the second phase build out of the facility.
The first phase build occurred in 2011 with Active Power deploying its first set of two PowerHouse systems which also included two standby generators. The nearly three megawatts of power infrastructure now installed supports nearly 1.5 megawatts of critical IT load in a fully redundant 2N configuration and provides backup generator power to the mechanical loads of the two modular data centers onsite.
Each of the four PowerHouse units contain the electrical infrastructure to support 720 kW of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) protected load and associated cooling mechanical loads backed up by its paired generator. PowerHouse contains Active Power-s CleanSource® UPS; controls and monitoring software; automatic transfer switch; switchboards; and auxiliary, regulatory, and safety devices. The standby diesel generators are each rated at 1500 kW and are housed in separate enclosures.
“We saved the customer time and money from having to design and engineer a traditional data center electrical room,” said Todd Kiehn, senior director, Product Marketing, at Active Power. “This is due to the fact the system is designed, integrated, and tested prior to deployment, making it -operation ready- when delivered onsite. The product delivers schedule, financial, and performance advantages over a conventional component-by-component implementation. Put simply, PowerHouse provides superior power density, reliability, and total cost of ownership compared to traditional alternatives.”
In March 2013, Active Power introduced to market its that has been redesigned and cost reduced to enable data centers to achieve their availability, efficiency, and budget goals. These products offer a lower acquisition cost, faster time to deployment, and superior management capability versus a conventional data center electrical room.
