Minimax GmbH & Co. KG is a leading company in the field of fire protection. As early as 2005 it has been using a virtual private network (VPN) from LambdaNet Communications Deutschland AG, the so-called LambdaNet-VIPNet, to interconnect its 31 locations in Germany and Austria. Minimax has now extended the contract with LambdaNet for a further 36 months. The volume of orders amounts to approx. 500,000 Euro.
The LambdaNet-VIPNet is a private VPN which only Minimax can access and includes, alongside the backup and router provided, the central internet interface at the Minimax head office in Bad Oldesloe as well. LambdaNet Internet Transit guarantees the high availability of the connection to one of the most modern and high-performance backbones of Europe. Through scalable bandwidths of up to 10,000 Mbit/s (Gigabit Ethernet), sufficient transport capacities are always provided. On the basis of clearly defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs), LambdaNet guarantees service availability of up to 99.95%.
The VPN created for Minimax by LambdaNet optimises the communication channels among the Minimax locations to the central electronic data processing centre as well as the internet by means of the MPLS technology installed. The main use is for “internal communications”. SAP, email and data services are all included in the VPN. Through the improved purchase conditions which were imparted to Minimax, it was able to save considerable costs.
“We have worked together with LambdaNet successfully for years. Innovative products which are constantly advancing, a very high quality service and a good cost-benefit ratio make it easy for us to remain loyal to LambdaNet”, says Björn Reese, IT Network Administrator at Minimax, outlining the decisive arguments for the re-extension of the contract.
Beside its high operative reliability, the LambdaNet VPN allows for flexible use of the network through scalable transmission capacities. In order to connect to the VPN, the Minimax Group only requires one connection per location. As a result the company is in the position to easily and quickly expand the closed network infrastructure between the locations at any time according to need. LambdaNet takes over the entire management of the VPN. Minimax uses 2 Mbit/s SDSL connections to connect to its branches. The head office is connected to the VPN with a redundant connection with bandwidths of 34 Mbit/s. On top of this, the highest possible availability is guaranteed through the targeted application of backup solutions using DSL and ISDN. 14 and 20 Mbit/s are provided for connection to the internet. According to demand, LambdaNet can provide customers with 2 to 1,000 Mbit/s as well as all current xDSL versions.
