In conjunction with the exhibition “Art & Fashion. Between Skin and Clothing”, the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg is presenting a fashion show on Friday, March 25, 2011, when the borders between art and fashion will be imaginatively redefined.
Fashion show DREAM
The Belgian designer Walter Van Beirendonck and students from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp will be putting on a fulminate fashion show featuring 150 outfits in the large hall of the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg. “DREAM” – as it is titled – will present fashion and art in a poetic, imaginative and highly creative show spotlighting Europe”s future top designers and reinterpreting our notions of fashion. After the spectacular fashions shows by Vivienne Westwood and her students, Wolfgang Joop, the humorous presentations of young British designer fashion and the creations by the future fashion makers from Bremen Art College, DREAM from the creative hotbed in Antwerp represents a further highlight in the series of fashion shows at the Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg.
Walter Van Beirendonck, born in 1957 in Brecht, Belgium, is a fashion designer, artist and professor at the Royal Academy in Antwerp. He achieved prominence with the “Antwerp Six” at the 1987 British Designer Show in London and the outfits for U2″s 1997 “Popmart” tour. In 1998, he was nominated for the Fashion Awards in New York. Van Beirendonck is regarded as the wildest designer of the “Antwerp Six”, a group of designers that includes Dries van Noten and Ann Demeulemeester, among others. His designs are colorful, humorous, playful, witty and unconventional, and yet they reflect upon serious political and cultural subject matters.
