HERNDON, VA — (Marketwired) — 08/01/13 — According to “The Association TRENDS 2013 Education Survey” conducted in June by Association TRENDS magazine and , a leading provider of integrated performance and learning management systems (LMS), 83 percent of associations make use of eLearning. Among those that don-t, 50 percent say understanding the technology available for eLearning is the most important factor keeping the organization from implementing an eLearning program.
“Given the immense popularity of eLearning, one may reasonably ask why some associations haven-t bought in,” said Joel Poznansky, publisher of Association TRENDS. “It-s a combination of perception and education.”
According to analyst firm Tagoras, there are hundreds of software systems that deliver and analyze eLearning. This makes it difficult for anyone to adequately assess the market. That challenge often stalls attempts to evaluate eLearning tools. Tagoras, in its report “Association Learning Management Systems,” highlights just 20 eLearning platforms meeting the requirements of associations.
“We-re definitely seeing an increase in adoption of eLearning technology among associations, and based on the number of associations that say they use eLearning or want to, we fully expect this pace to pick up,” said Jason Marceau, chief operations officer with Meridian Knowledge Solutions.
Association TRENDS polled 230 education and communications leaders at associations of various sizes to understand the state of eLearning. As for how associations use eLearning, the survey found 98 percent rely on tools such as webinars, videos and self-paced tutorials for members- professional development. Forty-five percent use eLearning for advocacy; and 21 percent rely on eLearning for training staff.
Since 1973, Association TRENDS has been committed to its mission of providing association leaders with news, best practices and key trends.
