Middlesex Water Company Data Flows Better With Broadleaf and Riverbed

BURLINGTON, MA — (Marketwired) — 07/30/13 — Broadleaf (), a leader in designing and implementing vendor solutions for data storage, virtualization and WAN optimization, announced that Middlesex Water Company engaged Broadleaf to help them improve network performance among their multiple office locations.

Middlesex Water Company had recently completed a large scale ERP implementation to streamline its business processes and was additionally seeking ways to shore up network performance between its New Jersey and Delaware offices. SAN to SAN replication traffic between those two sites was using a lot of the bandwidth and replication times were unacceptably long. With replication traffic utilizing the bandwidth, end users located at any of the company-s branch sites were challenged by slow application performance for Office, finance and accounting applications that are centralized in their New Jersey data center.

After assessing Middlesex Water Company-s challenges, the Broadleaf team recommended Riverbed Steelhead appliances. Riverbed products accelerate the broadest range of applications that are critical to business. They make IT infrastructure consolidation effective. File, email and application servers can be run from a main office without sacrificing performance for branch workers. The simplicity of the Steelhead appliances further enhances the benefit of this solution. The appliances deploy in minutes without changes to applications, users, routers, or other IT infrastructure. The appliances are also scalable so that they can grow with the business and thus provide investment protection.

Middlesex Water tested the Riverbed appliances for two weeks and proved that they were able to improve bandwidth utilization by 3x and reduce redundant TCP/IP traffic by 70%. Replication now completes in half of a day and end users can work efficiently from any office with a LAN like performance.

“Working with Broadleaf has allowed Middlesex Water Company to provide LAN-like performance over the WAN. We are seeing a huge improvement in bandwidth utilization and a major reduction in redundant traffic,” said Richard M. Risoldi, Chief Operating Officer. “The Riverbed Steelheads have allowed us to provide a better experience for the end user and vastly improved our RPO (recovery point objective) in the event of a disaster because of faster SAN to SAN replication. The Broadleaf team helped us to solve our challenges and provided strong consultative support through all phases of the project,” added Risoldi.
