WOODINVILLE, WA — (Marketwired) — 07/16/13 — ®, a leading home and commercial fitness equipment manufacturer, today announced that the Grand Forks Air Force Base in Grand Forks, ND has selected the Precor Preva® networked fitness solution — including 880 Line cardio equipment with interactive P80 consoles, Preva Personal Accounts and the Preva Mobile app — to provide the foundation for the base-s “SOAR into Shape” and other programs. Grand Forks AFB is the first U.S. military installation to deploy a comprehensive networked fitness solution that will enable service men and women to set fitness goals, track and upload workouts in the gym directly from Precor fitness equipment or outside using their mobile device, and share their fitness journey with trainers and friends. Preva networked fitness now operates in more than 1,000 commercial installations across 37 countries.
Grand Forks AFB-s recently renovated, 118,000 square-foot Sports and Fitness Center now offers state-of-the-art Precor 880 Line cardio equipment, including ellipticals, recumbent bikes, upright bikes and more all connected with the Preva networked fitness system. With Preva, patrons can create their own Preva Personal Accounts to set long-term fitness goals, establish weekly objectives for workouts, calories or distance and record workouts, whether they-re in the gym or outside using the Preva Mobile app for iPhone.
According to Grand Forks AFB Fitness Director Carol Muir, the beauty of the Preva solution is the way it helps exercisers focus on setting and achieving goals. “We-re always on the lookout for attractive new services that make the time our patrons spend in the facility enjoyable and productive. The greatest opportunity for us to engage with exercisers is to help them set a defined fitness target and then provide the motivation to get there. We see Preva as a much more strategic and long-term approach than relying on the latest exercise fad or wearable device.”
Preva Personal Accounts are an integral part of Grand Forks AFB-s fitness programs, including “SOAR into Shape,” a weight loss and health competition that rewards participants with points for achieving weight-loss milestones and workout targets. The solution allows exercisers to share their workout data with personal trainers who can then evaluate their progress and offer suggestions on how to achieve or raise their goals. Preva also helps exercisers stay engaged with their fitness goals by awarding them achievement badges that they can share on social networks. And, since Preva Personal accounts are cloud-based, service members can continue to work toward their fitness objectives even when they move to a different base. In light of the impact of Preva Personal Accounts on the success of the “SOAR into Shape” program, Grand Forks is considering additional ways to extend the use of personal accounts, including a fitness integrity competition among the base-s squadrons.
In addition to making fitness more engaging for exercisers, the Preva networked fitness solution provides a number of management benefits for Grand Forks AFB Sports and Fitness Center staff. Preva Business Suite allows operators to monitor equipment usage, determine peak usage times and quickly identify potential service issues. Preva Message Manager enables operators to send targeted messages letting exercisers know about Preva Personal Accounts, special events, competitions and personal training offers. Preva also allows equipment to be remotely upgraded over the Web.
Aware of the unique security considerations of an Internet deployment on a military base, Precor incorporated base IT staff into the initial planning discussions and throughout each step of the Preva roll out. This ensured network security needs would be met and the process would be predictable and seamless for everyone involved. Precor can easily replicate this same approach at bases with identical or similar network infrastructure and protocols.
“We-re pleased to show others out there with the same stringent requirements, what the path to success looks like,” added Muir. “Precor proved that you don-t have to sacrifice ease for security.”
Preva networked fitness is the inspired connection of people and the technology that empowers their fitness journey. Available on the P80 consoles of the Precor 880 Line of cardio equipment, Preva provides exercisers with the tools and experiences to reach and then set higher goals. These same technologies also help facility operators better manage their business with solutions that improve equipment management, increase retention and drive revenue. Launched in 2010, Preva has logged more than 25 million workouts to date.
