The program offers donated and deeply-discounted search software products and implementation services to these institutions, so they can focus more time and resources on achieving their missions.
As part of Pay It Forward, SRCH2 has enabled the to implement type-forward search with fuzzy error correction on its Android mobile application. Users of the app can easily search across non-confidential descriptions of technologies available for licensing from the University of California, Irvine (UCI).

Commitment to non-profit and charity missions is deeply rooted at SRCH2. One of the first live implementations of the company-s search software came as a result of Founder Chen Li-s focus on the January 2010 Haiti earthquake and its aftermath. That very powerful, 7.0 Mw earthquake, which struck Haiti on January 10, 2010, was catastrophic. It affected 3,000,000 people and killed more than 230,000.
In the after effects of the devastating earthquake, an immediate challenge was enabling people in the U.S., and elsewhere, to quickly learn the status of their friends and loved ones in Haiti. Communication was spotty and difficult and information was not readily available. Another major issue stemmed from holes in the data, such as partial names, married names, middle names, or misspellings. Records were often incomplete.
A few sites became repositories of this data. For example, Google created a site that centralized all available data and kept it updated. In the hours that followed, Li and his team took on the challenge of providing a powerful search on this data and created a widget for newspapers and other sites to use to display the data on their sites. The widget was powered by SRCH2 software and ran on Google-s central victim database, which had information on 55,300 people. Major sites, including the Miami Herald, used the SRCH2 widget to relay information to people in the days after the earthquake. That widget is still running and can be found on the .
“In the face of such devastation, it-s hard to see how one can help,” said Li. “We were encouraged by the Miami Herald-s use of our family reunification tools, and the many people working on the People Finder project who gave us positive feedback. We played a small role, at a crucial time, when access to incomplete information was so vital. It is a pertinent reminder that we have to be ready to act, and to give back to the community when we can.”
In complex and fast-moving situations such as the Haiti earthquake, there becomes an inherent need for simple tools, implemented quickly to offer full-text search with error correction. Search can quickly become mission-critical.
