AutoGrid-s Energy Data Platform Selected as the Winner of the American Technology Awards in the Smart Grid & Smart Instruments Category

PALO ALTO, CA — (Marketwired) — 06/21/13 — , a leader in Big Data analytics for the electricity and energy industry, has been awarded the TechAmerica Foundation American Technology Award for Smart Grid and Smart Instruments for 2013 for its Energy Data Platform.

Selected on the basis of a thorough evaluation by industry experts and technology leaders, the award is given to innovative companies that have developed technologies, products and services that represent breakthroughs in their respective field. The awards are the only national “Best Of” for technology products and services across the technology industry. Previous winners of the American Technology Awards include Freewave Technologies, Silver Spring Networks, SpaceX, and Petra Solar.

“We are very gratified to receive this recognition from the TechAmerica Foundation,” said Dr. Amit Narayan, CEO and founder of AutoGrid. “Big Data is a relatively new phenomenon, but the technology has the potential to dramatically improve energy productivity, help utilities and consumers save money and significantly reduce overall emissions. We think this technology will be particularly important in emerging nations as more than a billion people link to the grid for the first time over the next fifteen years.”

“Smart Grid technologies will play a fundamental role in advancing the energy industry and TechAmerica Foundation and TechAmerica and we are thrilled to see such a high caliber of entries in this category,” said Shawn Osborne, Chairman of the TechAmerica Foundation. “Congratulations to the team at AutoGrid on this recognition for their hard work, it is work like this that furthers our vibrant industry.”

AutoGrid-s Energy Data Platform is dynamic, cloud-based system that analyzes the complex interrelationships between power consumers and assets connected to the grid. Similar to e-commerce engines or algorithms for predicting weather, EDP mines petabytes of structured and unstructured data from smart meters and other equipment along with physics-based models to generate accurate, near-term forecasts concerning power consumption, the impact of pricing signals, or the effect of demand shifts on transmission and distribution lines. EDP can also be used to integrate intermittent renewable resources like solar or wind or replace spinning reserve services with software-based controls.

AutoGrid customers and partners include City of Palo Alto Utilities (CPAU), Silver Spring Networks, SAP, Austin Energy, Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

The winners were announced at the Technology and Government Dinner, the premier Washington, D.C. technology networking event, bringing together hundreds of industry and government leaders to celebrate the technology industry. The Dinner was held at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C., June 20, 2013. AutoGrid-s Chief Software Architect, Mr. Rajeev Singh, collected the award on behalf of the company.

Founded in 2011, AutoGrid is dedicated to bringing the power of Big Data, predictive analytics and Internet scale computational techniques to the production and consumption of electricity. Serving utilities of all sizes, grid operators, electricity retailers, ESCO services companies, and end-users, AutoGrid develops and markets services that both help lower costs and improve reliability of the electricity supply chain.
