Health Metrics Systems (HMS) Collaborates With HighCloud Security, Achieves HIPAA-Compliant and Elastic Cloud Environment

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — (Marketwired) — 06/19/13 — HighCloud Security, a leader in cloud encryption and key management software, today announced that Health Metrics Systems, Inc. (HMS) is leveraging HighCloud software to secure HMS- data within a public cloud. The partnership between HighCloud Security, HMS, and service provider ENKI creates a secure, highly elastic and HIPAA-compliant infrastructure to support HMS- rapid growth.

While expanding its software platform for healthcare data integration, analysis and care coordination applications, HMS reached out to HighCloud Security in order to create a more secure, efficient process for onboarding a groundswell of new data sets. While the company had previously used its own cloud infrastructure to great success, HMS- founder and CEO Tomas Moran understood that a cloud service provider could help them meet their aggressive growth goals, as long as they could support HIPAA compliance.

“HMS is in business to help our clients process petabytes of healthcare information in order to provide the right data and statistics to improve the quality of patient care,” said Moran. “HighCloud added critical data security that enabled us to move our business to more elastic Infrastructure as a Service, which could better support our rapid growth.”

For its cloud services, HMS chose ENKI, a full service cloud services provider with a VMware-based data center architecture, to help design a solution that addressed compliance but also supported the true security needs of HMS- clients.

“HMS needed security that could be easily and cost-effectively deployed each time a client came on board, yet was powerful enough to encrypt the quantity of data coming into the HMS platform,” said HighCloud CEO and co-founder Bill Hackenberger. “In partnership with ENKI, we were able to create secure, HIPAA-compliant infrastructure that sets a new benchmark for scalability.”

With health information exchanges and patient access to their own data on the rise, HMS looks to take terabytes of data and make it accessible on a patient-by-patient basis through an ENKI-hosted app. Both HMS and ENKI have noted that this app could be a true industry “game changer” for all parties.

While private and hybrid cloud infrastructures were addressed in previous versions, HighCloud-s new Data Security Module adds key functionality that lets customers lock down virtual machines so they can be deployed in any public cloud, easily and cost-effectively, while ensuring data is secure from creation through decommissioning. HighCloud Security-s Key and Policy Manager has also been expanded, providing centralized, policy-based key management across all HighCloud-secured environments. Health Metrics Systems, Inc. (HMS) provides a comprehensive software platform to help healthcare providers measure and improve quality of care. HMS normalizes and analyzes data from many disparate systems, giving each care provider a population-based health view of patient data in order to improve performance and cost-efficiency.

ENKI provides cloud services to SaaS providers and enterprises desiring premium IT infrastructure with personalized service. Founded in 2006, ENKI reduces client-s IT costs while focusing on their core business by providing Virtual Private Data Centers supported by flexible tiers of operations and consulting services. Additionally ENKI offers application-level monitoring, virtual machine encryption, ITIL compliant-backup, and multi-tiered storage utilizing their Silicon Valley and Denver datacenters. With its software-defined architecture, ENKI-s virtual private cloud offers secure, real-time scalability and is fully compliant for applications requiring HIPAA certification.
