AUSTIN, TX — (Marketwired) — 06/13/13 — To meet the high performance infrastructure needs of its enterprise customers, COMLINK, a broadband, datacenter, and cloud services communications provider, selected Active Power-s (NASDAQ: ACPW) CleanSource® UPS (uninterruptible power supply) platform for its new Grand Rapids, Mich. based data center. The facility opened its doors in late April 2013.
Active Power-s system consists of 600 kVA of total rated UPS capacity in a distributed redundant topology. COMLINK deployed the UPS with fully redundant power generation and two independent distribution paths to the server cabinet level, providing redundancy and high system availability in a cost effective and high efficiency manner. COMLINK also deployed Active Power-s GenSTART product. GenSTART is a battery free starting module that provides an additional degree of availability to the multiple standby generator sets onsite.
“We took a forward thinking and environmentally conscious approach with the design and build out of the facility, particularly in terms of electrical infrastructure,” said John Summersett, chief operating officer, at COMLINK. “Our end goal was to achieve higher operating efficiencies, eliminate costs associated with battery maintenance and replacement, and achieve a high degree of system reliability. Active Power-s UPS product delivers on each of these points all at a lower total cost of ownership compared to conventional solutions.”
“COMLINK was diligent and thorough in their review of UPS equipment prior to their purchase, considering everything from system performance to total cost of ownership,” said Doug Milner, president and CEO, at Active Power. “We are enabling the customer to achieve their availability, efficiency, and budget goals with a UPS product that is unmatched in terms of power density, reliability, and total cost of ownership.”
The state-of-the-art, 9,000 square foot facility is completely encased in concrete and houses COMLINK-s new Datasphere hosting and cloud business and Medisphere, a network solutions offering specifically tailored for Michigan based health care providers.
