June 5th was an exciting day at the Taipei International Convention Center VIP room as HomeGrid Forum members took to the stage at Computex 2013 to discuss and publicly demonstrate what G.hn is today.

Interest built in the days leading up to the event with a series of HomeGrid announcements, including its merger with the HomePNA Alliance, and HomeGrid certification of Sigma Designs- G.hn chipset — now the second HomeGrid certified silicon. To kick off the event, HomeGrid announced that TRaC is now ready to certify G.hn systems, following the successful G.hn system interoperability event held at its lab. This has delivered on the promise HomeGrid made a year ago, that system certification would be ready by the time of Computex 2013.

The Computex event included a HomeGrid eHome demonstration, based on five different vendors- products all networked together, and showing the ability of G.hn to provide robust communications over powerline and coax. The demonstration actually consisted of two homes, the two different G.hn powerline networks worked simultaneously without interfering with one another, a unique G.hn advantage.

This eHome demo gave a vivid illustration of G.hn-s possibilities in a real-world home. There is not just the ability to distribute high-quality video (including 3D and ultra-HD TV) and data, but security surveillance cameras can also be networked using G.hn. The demonstration truly brought to life a technology that is set to revolutionize the way the connected home operates.

The HomeGrid event was an excellent opportunity for attendees to see HomeGrid Forum members demonstrate exactly how G.hn can benefit both the consumer and service provider. Product interoperability was there for all to see, promoting a strong competitive market and allowing easy installation, both of which lead to satisfied customers.

The HomeGrid Forum event at Computex also offered a great personal networking opportunity for the press, system company representatives and service provider executives to talk with members of HomeGrid and discuss the benefits of G.hn, the timetable for certified system availability, and to learn more about what it means to have G.hn as the connected home backbone. Representatives from Comtrend, Marvell, Metanoia, Sigma Designs, Tangotec and Xingtera all displayed examples of their own and their partners- G.hn products, ranging from silicon chips to complete systems.

With an emphasis on the -business of G.hn,- HomeGrid Forum President, John Egan, began the event looking at the future of the connected home, and HomeGrid-s role in promoting the only truly reliable home network backbone. He described the exciting journey G.hn has already made, and discussed how HomeGrid helps its members and service providers to succeed with G.hn.

“Computex was a great opportunity to share our vision and show in practical terms what G.hn-based high-performance home networking can achieve to support increasingly connected lifestyles,” said Egan. “This was a chance to get in front of key decision-makers in the industry and really drive home the G.hn message and highlight the technology-s importance, and readiness for deployment. Our eHome demonstration showed how G.hn -just works,- and that it is ready to help service providers now.”

HomeGrid Forum (HGF) merged with the HomePNA Alliance in May 2013, to form an industry alliance of over 70 members including some of the world-s largest Service Providers, system manufacturers, and silicon companies. HomeGrid Forum is the leading organization for promoting advanced wired home networking. While supporting the existing base of HomePNA deployments, the combined organization promotes the smooth transition of all wireline home networking technologies to a single, unified, multi-sourced home networking technology, G.hn, over coax, phone wires, powerline, and plastic optic fiber. HomeGrid Forum provides silicon and system certification through its compliance and interoperability testing programs to ensure that service providers and retail customers can have great confidence in all G.hn and HomePNA products.
