.2010 – IDC Energy Insights announced today the availability of a new study, Vendor Assessment: 2010 Competitive Analysis of the Top 15 IT Vendors in the EMEA Utilities Industry (Doc # EIOS06S) that examines IT vendors- presence in the EMEA utility sector.
According to IDC Energy Insights, these top 15 IT vendors generated in 2009 revenues for$8.6 billion in the EMEA utilities market, and include: Accenture, Alcatel-Lucent, Atos Origin, BT, Capgemini, Cisco, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, IBM, Logica, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, and Siemens IT Solutions and Services (SIS).
“Supported by the IDC Energy Insights Leadership Grid, we analyzed how the top 15 vendors are positioned for the near future,” said Roberta Bigliani, EMEA research director, IDC Energy Insights. “The goal of the study is to provide utilities- CIOs, IT departments, and line-of-business managers a quantitative and qualitative analysis of IT vendors- utilities industry alignment and their ability to gain market share.”
Additional key findings include:
– IBM and HP ranked first and second with estimated revenues of about $1.5 billion each, together making up about 35% of the total revenue generated in the EMEA Utilities market by the top 15 IT Vendors.
– The leading software vendors, in order of highest revenues from software are IBM, Microsoft, SAP, and Oracle, which together sum up to $1.6 billion.
– The leading IT service providers, in order of highest revenues from IT services are IBM, Accenture, Capgemini, HP, Atos Origin, Logica, BT Group, and SIS, which together amount to $4.6 billion.
– In the software segment, SAP is expected to be in the best position, considering its high score on industry alignment related to market penetration. IDC Energy Insights also considers Oracle to have continuously improved its alignment to the utilities industry over the last couple of years, giving it a better edge to gain more market share.
– Best positioned IT Vendors in the IT services segment for the near future are Accenture, Capgemini and IBM, followed by Atos Origin and Logica.
