DEL MAR, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/29/13 — , the originator of mobile patient-controlled health information exchange, will demonstrate its iBlueButton mobile apps with its latest features based on the new Blue Button+ standards at the Health Datapalooza IV conference. The demonstration will take place on Monday June 3, in the Datapalooza Apps Expo at the Washington DC Omni Shoreham, from 1:30 to 5:30 PM.
Today, more than 70 million Americans are able to use the iBlueButton consumer app for mobile access and sharing of their ® online health records provided by patient portals that have adopted the Federal Blue Button initiative. iBlueButton empowers these consumers to securely access and transmit their medical records to their providers, device-to-device, improving the safety and efficacy of care. Studies show that the lack of up-to-date patient health information is a key contributor to medical errors that injure 1.5 million Americans annually, as well as to the redundant tests and other unnecessary procedures that waste billions of dollars each year.
The latest upgrade of the iBlueButton suite of mobile apps capitalizes on new Federal Blue Button+ standards. These standards, along with stage two meaningful use requirements taking effect in January 2014, will dramatically expand the number of consumers who are able to access their medical records. At that time, physicians who use certified EMRs will simply note their patients- secure electronic email address – known as a “Direct” address — and each patient will automatically receive their EMR-generated health records directly to their iBlueButton app. The Humetrix iBlueButton apps will automatically generate a Direct address for users, making it easy for consumers to provide these addresses to their physicians.
The integration of iBlueButton with the new Federal standards, enables consumers, for the very first time, to be instantly notified on their iPhone® or Android® smartphones when their physician updates their medical record. Tapping the notification text on their phone immediately launches their medical record for instant viewing.
“As Blue Button+ standards become widely adopted, iBlueButton users will be able to receive their medical records directly and instantly on the device they keep closest — their phone” said Bettina Experton, M.D., M.P.H., President and CEO of Humetrix. “iBlueButton also aggregates your Blue Button records from all sources [e.g., from Medicare or upcoming Blue-Button-enabled EMR systems] right on your phone into a usable and actionable format. You can easily and securely share them with providers anywhere, anytime you need to by tapping a simple Push button.”
This new functionality will be publicly released in early summer.
At Datapalooza, the company will also demonstrate new and existing innovative features of the award winning iBlueButton suite of mobile apps, including the ability for individuals to look up medication side-effects and diagnosis information with integrated access to ; annotate records with their personal information; and share these annotated records with physicians via iBlueButton-s novel, QR-code based, device-to-device secure data transfer technology.
With government leaders and drivers of the Blue Button initiative, Dr. Experton will also participate on June 6 at the White House Patient Engagement Summit to help accelerate the adoption of Blue Button by the millions of eligible Americans.
Many physician groups already encourage patients to access their Blue Button medical records via online patient portals. Beginning in January 2014, all U.S. physicians who use certified electronic medical records systems (EMRs) will be enabled to provide patients the means to Download, View and Transmit (also known as “VDT”) their health summaries or Blue Button records. With the new iBlueButton Blue Button+ feature, physicians using these EMRs certified by the federal government-s Meaningful Use program will be able to “push” these records directly to their patients- mobile devices. The new iBlueButton push notifications will alert patients of the receipt by iBlueButton of record updates for immediate access and viewing.
The iBlueButton consumer and physician apps are available on for iPhone and iPad (or iPad Mini) and for consumers using Android-powered smartphones on the store.
Patient health information exchanged via iBlueButton is always private and secure. Unlike cloud based centralized systems, personal health information (PHI), once transferred to the iBlueButton app resides solely in encrypted form on the user-s device. Only Direct protocol messages are located on the Humetrix servers for the time it takes to transfer them to the user-s device, and once transferred, everything is removed from the server.
Humetrix-s innovative mobile technology applications for consumers have been deployed around the world. The San Diego-based company-s solutions optimize emerging healthcare delivery models by enabling caregivers and their patients to automatically and securely access and exchange medical records on their smartphones and other mobile devices.
