LOS ANGELES, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/22/13 — the leader in accelerating the adoption of desktop virtualization, today announced that the latest release of its N-series Citrix Ready® HDX verified System on Chip (SoC) thin clients. Feature enhancements add significant value to virtual desktop computing initiatives in healthcare environments. The new N-series includes certified support for , extending the benefits of No Click Access to desktop virtualization for Citrix XenDesktop® and Citrix XenApp® customers.
Native integration with Imprivata OneSign virtual desktop access, combined with new support for an expanded set of industry-specific peripherals, opens up the healthcare market for NComputing and its channel of N-series resellers and partners. The new release of N-series devices, featuring Imprivata certified support, builds on the collaboration with Citrix® to provide customers with a simplified, seamlessly integrated thin client solution for a number of valuable healthcare use-cases.
Introduced last year, the N-series challenges the perception of what a thin client can deliver, not only for healthcare, but across industries, setting new standards for price and performance. Today the N-series features world-class security authentication through a partnership with Imprivata, a leading provider of healthcare IT security solutions. The new N-series includes certified integration for Imprivata OneSign, delivering the benefits of single sign-on (SSO), authentication management, secure and fast user switching for shared workstations and No Click Access to virtual desktops with RFID badge readers.
The Imprivata OneSign integration enables new levels of efficiency for Citrix healthcare environments by allowing healthcare providers to use RFID badge driven, hands free access to quickly tap in, tap out or tap over when logging in to thin client workstations, roam securely between desktop locations, and access key applications and data in real-time. The complete solution made up of Citrix server-based virtual infrastructures, Imprivata OneSign and N-Computing N-series thin clients, meets the healthcare industry-s strict requirements for security and compliance, while increasing productivity, performance and overall levels of patient care at a low cost and lower power consumption when compared to PCs, laptops or traditional thin client devices.
Laptops and PCs are expensive and draw too much power for Computer on Wheels (CoW), mobile cart deployments for Point of Care patient services. They quickly drain on-board batteries, creating the need for frequent recharging and taking the CoW out of service multiple times a day. By contrast, the specialized System on Chip (SoC) technology in the N-series draws less than five watts of power (versus the 150 watts of a PC or laptop) and will stay in service two-to-three times as long, without draining the cart-s on-board battery. The N-series is ideal for mobile computing in healthcare with a smaller thin client form factor, built in WiFi, security for data storage and application access and web-based centralized management.
NComputing and its partners plan to leverage the benefits of the integrated, certified support for the Imprivata OneSign Authentication Management and the new N-series to enable other vertical industry-specific use-cases and applications. The requirements for fast, reliable and secure authentication in Citrix environments extends beyond healthcare to other key vertical industries, including finance and banking, manufacturing and higher education.
“Imprivata shares NComputing-s view that mobility represents a tremendous opportunity, especially in healthcare. As a member of the , NComputing has integrated the latest release of its N-series thin clients with Imprivata OneSign ProveID application programming interfaces (API) to provide healthcare professionals with fast and secure No Click Access to their applications across roaming desktops with the tap of their badge,” said Meinhard Ullrich, director of business development at Imprivata.
: “The new N-series firmware release continues NComputing-s commitment to enabling a rich desktop virtualization user experience, while simplifying management and improving cost-effectiveness,” noted Steve Brasen, managing research director at Enterprise Management Associates. “Broader USB support coupled with Imprivata OneSign integration enhance user productivity and allow greater freedom in performing business tasks.”
“We continue to expand our footprint into new vertical markets as the demand for affordable and powerful desktop virtualization grows,” said Raj Dhingra, CEO of NComputing. “With the strategic Imprivata partnership and technology integration in the new N-series, healthcare is a natural next market, and we are already helping to imagine and power industry-forward applications and next-generation mobile use cases for virtualization across public hospitals and private healthcare environments.”
The new product releases will be available in Q2 2013. For more information on pricing, email . Visit NComputing at Citrix Synergy in booth #306 this week for product demos and more information.
