LOS ANGELES, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/21/13 — Legal Tech – Eliminating data exposure concerns with Dropbox and similar services, Hitachi Solutions has launched Credeon Cloud Data Protection, an application to simplify security on file-sharing cloud services with easy-to-use, professional-strength data protection. It automatically encrypts and decrypts files shared in the cloud, protects from accidentally distributing files in the clear, and includes a desktop key management system that prevents cloud services from accessing unencrypted files, among other features. Credeon Cloud Data Production is currently available as a free, limited-time end-user trial.
Although cloud file sharing services are convenient, users at law firms, healthcare organizations and other privacy-oriented businesses are inadvertently putting their files — and their firms — at risk for security breaches. Hitachi Solutions developed Credeon Cloud Data Protection as a straightforward drag and drop add-on that allows secure team collaboration and mobile access with confidential files that are shared on the widely used cloud services Box, Dropbox and SkyDrive.
With Credeon Cloud Data Protection, global team leaders and professionals working with private information, such as lawyers or doctors, directly control who can access and view files. Sensitive files automatically remain in an encrypted state as they are distributed among team members and are shared on mobile devices. Since the encryption key is stored on the user-s system, not in the cloud, Credeon provides complete privacy and Dropbox, or the other file sharing services, cannot access the unencrypted data.
“Just as employees started bringing their own mobile devices to work, they naturally are gravitating to familiar file-sharing services to distribute company documents, creating what has been called the -Dropbox problem- because company data is unintentionally left exposed in the cloud. Credeon Cloud Data Protection allows people to use their favorite cloud service, but adds the necessary security to prevent data leakage and protect the business with virtually no end-user effort,” said Yuji Nakagawa, vice president of security system division, Hitachi Solutions America, Ltd.
To secure a file once a project is set up, document owners simply log in to the Credeon Cloud Data Protection console on their desktop, drag the selected file to a Credeon folder, then upload the file to the project team folder on their selected cloud service. The file is now automatically encrypted and protected with the advanced security features built into Credeon Cloud Data Protection, including:
Industry-standard AES-256 bit encryption algorithms and a FIPS 140-2 validated cryptograph module, among the strictest security in common use today
Automatic encryption and decryption; does not require the user to alter file settings or set passwords
Precise security controls, including offline login policy and account lockout settings
Secure file sharing on multiple cloud services and with multiple project teams
Unlike other data protection products, the encryption key is stored on the user-s system; the data is completely private and the cloud service never has access to the unencrypted data
Patent-pending enhanced security key management system provides additional protection
A free iOS application, with an Android app coming soon, that allows secure viewing of files on mobile devices
To eliminate another common area of data leakage when documents are accessed on mobile devices, files protected with Credeon Cloud Data Protection are stored in cache memory and can be viewed, but not saved, on tablets and smart phones. Documents on mobile devices are automatically deleted after a set time, so they do not accidentally remain accessible or transferable.
The software also incorporates a complete set of IT controls, allowing administrators to manage project member accounts and change accessibility permissions through a convenient Web console. This includes audit logs of users- access to files by project and allowing administrators to set security policies for each project.
With the no obligation, limited-time trial, users can download the fully-functional Credeon Cloud Data Protection at no cost to evaluate its usefulness and ease-of-use at . No credit card or payment information is required. Paid subscriptions will be available in the third quarter of 2013 with monthly rates less than the upgraded version of many cloud services.
