InteropNet 2013: Unbreakable! Avaya Fabric Connect Delivers on All Fronts

SANTA CLARA, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/15/13 —

World-s largest temporary network tests the mettle of Shortest Path Bridging and Fabric Networking

Avaya VENA Fabric Connect simplifies the network backbone and delivers flawless execution delivering network capacities up to 160 Gbps

Installs in record time with 1/10th of the resources of previous years needed

When hundreds of the top tier networking vendors and thousands of attendees show up for Interop, the industry-s premier event, expectations run high for the network underpinning all the show activities. This year, served as the 2013 InteropNet backbone, and last week-s event was yet another proof point in its ability to simplify and support complex, high demand networks.

Case in point: Four system engineers completed the network installation in three days — 1/10 the resources of previous events. Then, for the next five days, the show tested the mettle of (SPB) and Fabric Networking, delivering capacities of up to 160 Gbps of bandwidth to the Interop show floor. On the show floor, along with other vendors- solutions comprising InteropNet, provided Internet access, connectivity and selected booth-to-booth connectivity for exhibitors; off the show floor, services included connectivity for keynotes, registration services and workshops; and video surveillance streamed from 11 different locations.

When the final switch blinked off last Friday, there was only one conclusion to be made: Avaya Fabric Connect met the challenge without a single incident related to the Avaya solution. Layer 2, Layer 3, Unicast and Multicast services ran flawlessly over Avaya Fabric Connect the entire event. Mission accomplished.

Based on an enhanced implementation of Shortest Path Bridging, an open, standards-based, extensible fabric technology, Avaya VENA Fabric Connect transforms networks from data center to desktop into a more agile one that is easier to configure, manage and maintain. The technology dramatically simplified the design, deployment and management of the InteropNet network: moves, adds and changes were completed on the fly within minutes through end point provisioning, and all services were delivered with a single technology that eliminated the need for legacy technologies such as Spanning Tree, OSPF and PIM.

The Fabric Connect backbone extended from the Network Operations Center to the Interop show floor using the VSP 4000, integrated scalable Layer 2, Layer 3 and the newly announced IP Multicast services over Avaya Fabric Connect which enabled simplified, resilient IP video surveillance to be deployed over the fabric infrastructure. The network deployment also included the VSP 9000, ERS 8800 and ERS 4800 Series products. The network deployment also supported a live SPB interoperability test between Spirent, HP and Alcatel-Lucent showing a true multivendor fabric implementation.

“Avaya performed flawlessly as the InteropNet backbone provider. The fact that they were able to get the backbone network up and running very quickly with minimal staff, is a true testament to the power of the Avaya Fabric Connect technology and the quality of Avaya-s engineers. We were pleased to be able to showcase this technology as a new way to architect and design networks to deliver for unparalleled simplicity, reliability and agility.”

“Congratulations to Avaya for delivering the InteropNet backbone this year. The company delivered a highly reliable network to meet the demanding challenges of the thousands of users at the Interop conference. While Interop has enjoyed high quality networks in the past, this year-s Avaya deployment differed in two ways: First, the simplicity, agility and ease of deployment highlighted the value of Avaya-s Shortest Path Bridging-based Fabric Connect technology. The entire network was set up overnight by three engineers showing that companies don-t require an army of engineers to work around the clock and continually fight fires. The second area of differentiation was the SPB interoperability demonstration involving a number of industry players. This is a real testament to open and extensible nature of the underlying technology.”

“InteropNet gave us the opportunity to showcase our standards-based, fabric networking solutions and demonstrate that simplicity and multi-vendor interoperability should be the hallmark of modern networks. Building and executing InteropNet with a team of our peers has been a great experience and sets a new standard for our industry.”
