SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwired) — 05/14/13 — , the authority in App Risk Management, and , the leader in security and management for mobile apps, documents, and devices, today announced that Appthority-s fully automated App Risk Management service is available on MobileIron-s Application Inventory. Now MobileIron customers have a new resource for determining which apps to block or permit using Appthority-s static and dynamic analysis.
MobileIron-s Application Inventory solutions present a snapshot of all applications installed across all company-managed mobile devices. Administrators can use the MobileIron inventory listing to track new applications, determine popularity of an app, and identify risky applications. Appthority identifies all app functions in order to help categorize and call out the presence of malware, privacy issues, and risky behaviors, ultimately giving each app an Appthority Total Risk Score (TRS) within the MobileIron console. All apps are compared against Appthority-s database, the world-s largest collection of analyzed apps, providing an immediate score for already assessed apps. New apps are automatically added and run through a series of static and dynamic tests to discover their true behavior and measure the total risk of apps within minutes.
“For IT staff getting their hands around BYOD, there is another challenge ahead with mobile apps,” said Chris Hazelton, research director, mobile and wireless at 451 Research. “IT will need to identify, interrogate and manage all mobile apps that are connecting to enterprise data on employees- devices. In effect, IT will need to actively curate their own private enterprise app stores, which will contain hundreds, and potentially thousands, of apps.”
“End users love mobile apps, but IT worries rightfully about security,” said Ojas Rege, VP Strategy, MobileIron. “Appthority-s global app database allows MobileIron customers to spot downloaded apps that take risky actions, such as sharing data or not using encryption properly, so that corporate data can be protected.”
“App risk means different things to different people,” said Domingo Guerra, co-founder and president, Appthority. “For example, some companies may not want their CEO using apps that track their location, while that may not be a concern for other organizations. Through our partnership with MobileIron, we-ve integrated our findings on over one million apps that Appthority has analyzed, enabling IT to determine which apps are the best fit for their workplace. As a result, MobileIron-s Application Inventory is a one-stop shop to see what apps employees can or have downloaded and any potential app risk.”
