Employers today face a number of unprecedented challenges in conducting their payroll operations, from complying with changing tax policies and keeping proper records to striving to bring greater efficiency and cost reduction to the process. The 31st Annual APA Congress aims to connect payroll professionals with the ideas, processes and best practices that can improve their payroll operations and achieve greater efficiencies and compliance. Equifax Workforce Solutions will figure prominently in the Congress agenda, with its subject matter experts leading three sessions on some of the most critical aspects of payroll and taxation:
Tax Credits and Incentives Impact the Bottom Line by Leveraging Payroll Data
In this session, Michael Mohr, vice president, and Scott Shipman, TMS senior tax manager, of Equifax Workforce Solutions join with Carl York, PR implementation consultant with OneSource Virtual, to provide attendees with an overview of the tax credits and incentives available to employers. They will focus on federal, state and payroll incentives that help minimize an employer-s tax bill and maximize the bottom line. Specific incentives to be addressed include the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC), hiring, job creating, enterprise zones and other location-based initiatives.
Taking Control of Your I-9 Compliance
In this session, Troy Hupp, manager of I-9 Operations for Equifax Workforce Solutions, and Barbara Youngman, finance payroll manager for Southwest Airlines Co., will explain what employers need to know to comply with the latest I-9 requirements from federal and state authorities. Through case studies and a Q&A session, they will discuss the benefits of converting from a paper-based I-9 process to an electronic solution and share experiences with I-9 and E-Verify processes and their impact on compliance.
Unemployment Tax Impact on 2013 and Beyond
During this workshop, Mohr, along with Matthew White, region director, Employment Tax Services for Equifax Workforce Solutions, and Brent Gow, director, Global Payroll Consulting & Compliance for Starbucks Coffee Company, will provide a broad overview of the current state of the national economy as it relates specifically to unemployment taxes. The experts will review state trust fund challenges, current legislative trends and the impact of unemployment tax policies on employers. They will also share best practices and proactive guidance on planning strategies, tax rating and claims management related to unemployment risks.
In addition to these sessions, Equifax Workforce Solutions will serve as a gold sponsor of the APA Congress and showcase how its industry-leading payroll and tax expertise helps organizations implement processes that can greatly enhance their HR, payroll and tax-related processes. Attendees who wish to learn more about these solutions are encouraged to visit the company at Booth No. 301 during exhibition hours.
