MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — (Marketwired) — 04/30/13 — , a leading enterprise mobile platform, has released a module that connects Appcelerator-powered mobile applications to backend Oracle databases using Oracle Database Mobile Server, Berkeley DB and SQLite to enable fast and secure mobile access. The Appcelerator connectors also support on-device data processing that allow for larger data sets to be held remotely so they can be fully functional outside of network range, and then synchronized automatically later. This is a critical capability for field sales and service teams that need data access and connectivity with core Oracle systems, but are often network constrained.
“With this new module, enterprises will now be able to connect Appcelerator-powered mobile applications to critical enterprise datasets stored in their Oracle databases,” states Jeff Haynie, Appcelerator CEO. “Given the prevalence of Oracle in the enterprise, this effort can enable massive adoption of Mobile First strategies for enterprises.”
An advanced synchronization engine, Oracle Database Mobile Server can keep large numbers of physically remote databases synchronized with a backend Oracle Database system, allowing mobile apps to function locally on the device, even without network connectivity. When a network is in range, data is synchronized with the backend servers automatically; and, if network connectivity is lost during the sync process, it will stop and resume where it left off once connectivity returns. Encryption is available for both data transport and storage on the mobile client.
Oracle Database Mobile Server is designed to work with large and small amounts of data alike, and supports both Berkeley DB, Oracle-s high-performance mobile device data store, and SQLite, the popular open source mobile device database. Berkeley DB is used within a wide variety of open source and proprietary products for telecommunications, networking, storage, security, enterprise infrastructure, financial services, mobile applications, health care, smart metering and many other functions. The on-device processing model eliminates the network performance penalty of distributed and client-server architectures, and allows mobile apps to keep working offline when signals are weak or unavailable.
“Mobility brings new possibilities to the enterprise to reach even more users with a fundamentally greater impact than the web. Our customers are using geo-location, augmented reality and other mobile-specific capabilities to transform every aspect of their businesses, including once-limited areas like field service and supply chain management,” states Gamiel Gran, Vice President of Business Development, Appcelerator. “Now, the enterprise workforce has secure access to all of their critical data when and where they want.”
