As the demands on data centers increase, creating higher costs and power usage, the industry is looking for ways to increase efficiency and decrease operating costs. The concept of converting the power distribution configuration from alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC) within the data center is gaining increasing acceptance. DC data center technology is more energy-efficient and safer to use than traditional AC technology. By trimming power conversion losses, DC technology can reduce energy costs by 10 percent or more.
