BOSTON, MA — (Marketwired) — 04/24/13 — Skycore LLC, developers of , the commercial barcode scanning app for iOS and Android devices, has today announced deploying augmented reality (AR) within the camera view of their app-s SD PRO scan engine.
AR technology enables app users to preview the values of multiple barcodes simultaneously and then select the correct barcode to capture and submit to an asset database. The company aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of data collection for enterprises looking to track assets with smartphones and tablets.
“Assets with multiple barcodes positioned closely together can be challenging to scan. Augmented reality will help solve that problem. It-s a promising new technology, especially as we integrate it with our over the coming months,” said Rich Eicher, Skycore-s CEO.
The technology was introduced today on codeREADr for Android and is expected on codeREADr for iOS in Q4/2013. Both apps already support , codeREADr-s advanced scan engine for quickly decoding 45+ commercial 1D/2D barcode symbologies.
Once captured, a barcode value may be supplemented with location and other asset data. The codeREADr platform-s cloud-based Web service records, validates and filters the collected data. Clients manage permissions, databases and reports using the platform-s self-service Web site or through developer APIs. Enterprises can optionally push scan records directly from the app to their own servers for processing.
“Enterprises deploying smartphones and tablets for data collection can reduce capital expenses and yet leverage convenience and advanced technology. The savings can be particularly significant if employees, agents and contractors use their own devices instead of specially provisioned hardware. Our vision is enabling these devices for advanced applications that were previously impractical,” said Eicher.
