Higher Education Uses Cutting-Edge Technology to Educate the Digital Generation

RALEIGH, NC — (Marketwired) — 04/17/13 — Biamp Systems, a leading provider of innovative, , has partnered with the design and build teams of North Carolina State University-s new James B. Hunt Jr. “Library of the Future” to showcase the technology and design innovation of the facility. The event will feature a tour and presentation highlighting how sound design and technology were used to strengthen the overall educational experience at NCSU. There will be a feature presentation by sound theorist and TED alumni Julian Treasure on “Designing With Our Ears” illustrating the physical, emotional, and educational benefits realized when good design encompasses both the visual and the auditory.

The integrated audio experience created in the Hunt Library is a strong complement to the visually immersive experience that is a hallmark of the new facility, including the five Christie Digital MicroTiles displays that make it a large-scale visualization sandbox for the NC State community and the brightly colored furniture and flooring that contribute to the energy in the building.

Described by Scientific America as “an amazing place,” the 221,000 square foot library houses a 400-seat auditorium, visualization labs used by students, academic researchers, and a range of government and corporate partners, 100 group study rooms to encourage collaboration, a state-of the art game lab, and sophisticated video and media production facilities that democratize access to the tools that are driving today-s economy. Since its opening in January 2013, the Hunt Library has won acclaim from a wide range of publications, including Architectural Record, Triangle Business Journal, Associated Press, San Francisco Chronicle, Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Express, AOL.com, Washington Observer, and News and Observer.

The multimedia integration of this five-story library was made possible by cutting edge design and build expertise, along with visionary audio/video designer Scott Frey of The Sextant Group and Maurice York of NSCU Libraries. Frey saw clearly that the Hunt Library needed an AV component that was just as innovative and robust as the building itself. Frey chose Biamp-s AudiaFLEX and Nexia® product families to provide the audio solution and contributed to making the library a true learning environment of the future.
