PETALUMA, CA — (Marketwire) — 03/25/13 — today announced that has selected , a software-defined network (SDN) system, and , a family of packet-optical transport platforms (P-OTPs), to deliver advanced new services across its Minnesota service footprint. The selection culminates a rigorous process that combined an RFP and a broad regimen of optical testing. The new software-driven ROADM / DWDM network will open up incremental revenue opportunities for Arvig as it adds optical services for business and educational customers. The Cyan solution allows Arvig to pursue these new revenue opportunities while improving scalability, reducing complexity, and minimizing costs.
According to Andrew Klinnert, Director of Network Operations at Arvig, “We are pleased with the flexibility and operational simplicity the Cyan solution offered as compared to more traditional offerings. We needed a reduced order-to-service-turn-up solution with improved visibility into each provisioned service. Cyan gave us all this and much more with the Blue Planet SDN system.”
Arvig was especially attracted to two unique aspects of the Cyan solution:
1. Blue Planet. This SDN system not only provides Arvig with advanced planning and visualization apps, it also yields the ability for Arvig to extend visibility into network services to its own customers. Blue Planet includes an open SDN platform, a set of element-adapters for controlling third-party network devices, and a range of apps that can be used to orchestrate and monitor services.
2. Z-Series single-slot 100G. The new DTM-100G gives Arvig a future-proof solution that allows them to cost effectively deliver future 100G wavelength and Ethernet services anywhere in the network, including remote outside-plant locations services by Cyan-s ultra-compact, 2RU Z22 P-OTP.
Cyan CMO and vice president of North American Sales Eric Clelland added, “We are excited with the partnership between Arvig and Cyan. Our Z77 and Z33-s are delivering a wide set of business service offerings strengthening Arvig-s already impressive portfolio of services.”
Arvig has already begun the network build-out and anticipates advanced service availability to its business, governmental, and residential customers by mid-year.
