IRVINE, CA — (Marketwire) — 03/18/13 — Sage North America announced today the results of the Sage SMB Survey on Mobile Devices, which recently polled 249 small and midsized construction firms in the United States and Canada. The Survey found that the majority of construction firm business decision makers believe that mobile technology is benefiting their businesses (85 percent).
Construction firms are using mobile devices to access company information while on the job site and to reduce travel and energy costs. Moreover, the survey found that mobile device usage has increasingly enabled the ability for construction workers to provide instant reporting while at the job site. This instant reporting ability allows decisions to be made while at the job site, ultimately cutting down on costly and time-consuming errors.
The Sage North America mobile survey found that more than 75 percent of respondents, which included both decision makers and employees, have used a mobile device to access work-related information on that device. The most common devices used in the construction industry to access work-related information were smartphones (77%) and laptops (72%). Surprisingly, tablets were less likely to be used remotely (26%).
“The construction industry particularly benefits from mobile devices, which, for example, can eliminate the need to haul bulky sets of plans and four-inch thick books of project specifications to the job site,” said Joe Langner, executive vice president of Sage North America. “According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 48,000 construction jobs were added during the month of February. And, as the industry continues to grow and recover, mobile devices can certainly play a significant role in effectively helping construction businesses. From becoming more efficient to increasing collaboration between those on the job site and those in the office, mobility will make it easier to accomplish tasks and project goals beyond just the -four walls.-“
The Sage SMB Survey on Mobile Devices was conducted among 249 respondents and has an error rate of +/- 6.2 percent with a 95 percent confidence level.
