zSpace, Inc. and EchoPixel, Inc. Partner to Develop Clinical Protocol for Colon Cancer Detection

SUNNYVALE, CA — (Marketwire) — 03/13/13 — , a technology provider that is transforming the future of human-computer interaction, announced today that software partner will use the Company-s interactive 3D platform zSpace to develop a clinical protocol for detecting colon cancer. In time for Colon Cancer Awareness month, this study will take place at the (UCSF) Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the San Francisco VA Medical Center.

This protocol will use data from computed tomography (CT) images to generate holographic 3D reconstructions of the data in zSpace, which allows the clinician to interact with the colon as if it were a true physical object. EchoPixel-s software tools combined with zSpace-s head tracking capabilities will enable clinicians to search through the reconstruction for clinically relevant structures such as polyps, immediately understand their position relative to the surrounding anatomy and interactively dissect the reconstruction for detailed evaluation.

EchoPixel, Inc. is collaborating with Dr. Judy Yee, MD, at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the San Francisco VA Medical Center.

“This technology has the potential to increase the accuracy of identifying -flat lesions- or nonpolypoid lesions in a faster timeframe,” said Dr. Yee.

The search and problem solving strategies provided by the new protocol are key to achieving rapid reading responses, as the head tracking capabilities of zSpace allow you to become fully immersed in a highly realistic, comfortable 3D environment where you can intuitively navigate the data with increased detail and precision.

zSpace, Inc. and EchoPixel-s founder and CTO, Sergio Aguirre, MSEE, will host a free webinar that highlights the value of using virtual holography in medical visualization:

True3D Medical Visualization Using Virtual Holography

Current medical visualization has limitations in representing the complex 3D relationships present in anatomy, resulting in the loss of clinically significant information. Evaluating True3D virtual holographic views of anatomy offers an opportunity to redefine medical visualization and expand diagnostic, surgical planning and intervention capabilities to a new level of excellence.
