Cat litter boxes are a clean and hygienic solution for both, cats and owners. Over 50 million cats live in Europe and they all need their own cat toilet. How litter boxes function, where they come from and how they adapt to the living space is what Peter Hoffmann has dealt with. The founder and CEO of ECONIMAL GmbH in Edingen-Neckarhausen (Germany) is a hygienic specialist and cat lover. This inspired the resourceful businessman to come up with an idea.
“There should be an alternative to the standard cat litter boxes available on the market, which hardly have changed for decades”, he thought for himself.
He wanted to realize a product that combines the needs and wishes of both: cats and owners. The cat toilet should be able to be used closed, half open or even completely open. At the same time, an integrated ergonomic handlebar should ensure a secure handling. He visualized a cat toilet with optimal measurements no corners and edges which should ease the cleaning significantly.
Mr. Hoffmann thought of all details. And last but not least, the cat toilet should have a timeless, elegant design, that should not be hidden.
Professor Luigi Colani, one of the best and most respected designer of our times, encouraged Peter Hoffmann and supported him from the beginning. Professor Luigi Colani, an avowed cat lover, holding between 20 – 40 cats at his country estate in South of France, which are looked after professionally by an extra employed vet, has studied his cat´s behavior closely over the past years. These personal experiences plus the opinions from experts were considered in the development and design of the cat toilet. Professor Luigi Colani and Peter Hoffmann both found it to be very important, that the functionality influences the design, not the other way around.
In May 2012 Peter Hoffmann and Professor Luigi Colani presented together their recent project at the leading pet trade show INTERZOO – a cat toilet in the classic Colani-Biodesign, that really sticks out. Professor Luigi Colani clearly enjoyed his visit at INTERZOO 2012 and took a lot time to talk, sign autographs and take photos with prospective clients and fans. The high level of interest and positive feedback from the international media and global trade
visitors have far exceeded the expectations of all participants. Peter Hoffman now knew he was on the right track.
The rollout of the Colani cat toilet is planned for end of August 2013. Certainly MADE IN GERMANY. Production and engineering are both carried out in Germany, which underlines the philosophy and are important elements of the overall concept just as much as the bank independent funding.
