PHOENIX, AZ — (Marketwire) — 03/04/13 — St. Joseph-s Hospital and Medical Center, Arizona-s highest nationally-ranked hospital in this year-s U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals edition and the recipient of the 2012 Health Grades Emergency Medicine Excellence Award has adopted Emerge.MD-s Consult Accelerator to improve real time clinical collaboration. This solution provides emergency department staff with online call calendars, allowing them to easily page, call or start a video consult with specialists from any device.
With an average of 86,000 annual emergency department visits St. Joseph-s Hospital and Medical Center operates one of the busiest hospitals in Phoenix. According to The National Institute of Health, “Communication in the emergency department is a complex process where failure can lead to poor patient care, loss of information, delays and inefficiency.” In Arizona the challenge is exacerbated given the shortage of specialty care services and the dramatic increase in annual emergency outpatient visits. Between 2004 and 2005, for example, there were over 2M patients seen in Arizona emergency rooms, representing a 17% year over year increase.
St. Joseph-s leadership strives to continuously improve care and patient outcomes and enhance how its 1,400 clinicians collaborate. “Consult Accelerator improves physician to physician communication and moves complex Emergency Call Calendars into current technology. Using Consult Accelerator for Emergency Call Calendars meets regulatory (CMS) requirements and provides reports for reimbursement and legal purposes. The potential of Consult Accelerator beyond Emergency Call Calendar use is limitless,” -Joan Robley, Director of Medical Staff Services.
“Consult Accelerator will be implemented throughout St. Joseph-s with Phase 1 of implementation occurring in the Emergency Department. The solution will improve real-time communication among care teams and enable our clinicians to interact with one another through a wide range of devices. We look forward to improving how clinicians collaborate, enabling our vision to be distinguished by excellent quality and committed to expanding access to those in need,” -Dr. Charles Alfano, Chief Medical Officer.
“We are thrilled to be working with St. Joseph-s Hospital and Medical Center on their initiative to improve clinical collaboration throughout the enterprise. This is very much aligned with our vision and passion of improving patient care and outcomes by simplifying telehealth, facilitating how patients and clinicians experience virtual care,” said Vince Balsamo, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
