MILPITAS, CA — (Marketwire) — 02/11/13 — , the world-s largest independent mobile video and media company, today announced the U.S. results of a global study on education. The survey specifically touched on the obstacles that people face in getting the education they desire for themselves and their families, where they prefer to learn, interest in receiving education via their mobile phones and their motives for furthering their education. The survey received just over 80,000 respondents globally with approximately 3,500 of those from the U.S.

Here is a sample of key results in the U.S.:

39% of people say that insufficient money is the number one obstacle to getting an education. By way of comparison, globally this number is 47%.

35% of people say that learning on their mobile phones would be their top choice for learning. This is compared to 30% who indicate that school would be their ideal channel for education.

54% of people said they would be “very interested” in receiving education via their mobile phones and an additional 21% said they would be “somewhat interested.” For males under 18, the percentage of those “very interested” grows to 62%.

Career development is the number one learning goal of respondents in the U.S. with 41% choosing that as their priority. This priority is most prevalent with people between the ages of 18 and 25 with 46% of males making this selection and 41% of females. “We were surprised to find more commonalities than differences between emerging markets and developed countries around the disconnect between the appetite for learning and access to resources,” said Nickhil Jakatdar, CEO of Vuclip. “Mobile video is the medium that can bridge this gap as long as there is universal access to good educational content and discovery methods and ongoing distribution of fresh content. And, it is a global solution because video can transcend language.”

In its debut version, the Vuclip education portal — — will provide free access to thousands of educational videos from , the world-s premier not-for-profit education organization that offers free micro-lectures teaching mathematics, history, healthcare, medicine, finance, physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, economics, computer science and other subjects. Additionally, MIT content is available for topics such as “Calculus: Complex Variables,” “Multivariable Calculus: Vector Arithmetic,” and “Applied Probability.” Additional content in various languages is a part of the expansion strategy for the portal.
