LEANDER, Texas, January 30, 2013 – Layered Labs announced today their 3D Printer Design contest, and a call for engineers at Call for Engineers.
In cooperation with GrabCAD, Layered Labs is crowd sourcing the industrial design of their new 3D printer, putting out a public call for engineers to join the competition and submit their own designs.
Crowd sourcing has had its impact in financing for many projects, but this is the first time a company has allowed the public to help with so major a portion of the design process. “Competition drives innovation.” Said Enrique Muyshondt, President of Layered Labs “While the majority of our engineering is done in-house, we-re excited to see what the community comes up with to help guide the look and feel of our products.”
The design contest can be followed at 3D Print Design Contest, and the winners will be announced in March. The cash total of all the prize packages is $4375, with a top prize of $2500 and a free 3D printer, if the design is produced.
