SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwire) — 01/25/13 — TextMe, a provider of enhanced communications on mobile devices, and Open Garden, the mobile Internet innovator, today announced a partnership to enhance the communication experience on Android based tablets.
Most Android tablets that are shipped to the market don-t have any 3G or 4G connectivity. When used from home most users connect them to their local Wi-Fi but when carried on the go, which is the primary purpose of these devices, open Wi-Fi hotspots are often missing. Working together, TextMe and Open Garden have built an innovative solution to allow for Android tablet devices to remain connected using cellular data networks when Wi-Fi connections are not an option.
As TextMe users on Android tablets try to communicate when Wi-Fi is not available, the Open Garden mobile application will dynamically create a local peer-to-peer mesh network by interconnecting nearby devices. When a TextMe user is using the app from their tablet, Open Garden will automatically route the traffic through their Android phone if no Wi-Fi network is available. The experience is seamless and TextMe users are only asked once when downloading TextMe from GooglePlay to install Open Garden app if its presence is not detected on the device.
“TextMe is focused on bringing the best and most complete communication experience across text messaging, voice calls and video chat,” said Christophe Bach, TextMe-s Founder. “Working with Open Garden, we can make sure that our users will be able to keep communicating, regardless of their location, making the Android tablets truly mobile.”
Micha Benoliel, Open Garden-s CEO, said, “The communication space is changing rapidly, Open Garden and TextMe are now enabling millions of Android Tablet users to communicate freely on the go from their tablet without any Wi-Fi connection.”
