ACTON, MA — (Marketwire) — 01/22/13 — Carbon Design Systems () announced today that it closed calendar year 2012, recording its sixth consecutive year of growth as more companies recognized the need for virtual prototypes with a path to accuracy.
The growth can be attributed to 14 new customers, fueled by the adoption of Carbon Performance Analysis Kits (CPAKs), pre-built, easily extensible virtual prototypes introduced in May, and a $4 million investment from Samsung in September.
“2012 was a breakout year for Carbon in multiple ways,” comments Rick Lucier, Carbon-s president and chief executive officer (CEO), who cites a number of factors, including Samsung-s investment and partnership that enabled new technology developments. “Additionally, we-ve seen a strong uptick in demand from design teams seeking virtual prototypes with a connection to accuracy. Our 100% accurate models give us the unique capability to solve this growing demand, while also offering the capability to execute that same virtual prototype at the speeds needed by software developers.”
Samsung-s strategic investment has been used as working capital and supports Carbon-s ongoing development of leading tools in the electronic system level (ESL) design space, including its fast, accurate virtual prototypes.
CPAKs, packaged with bare-metal and O/S software to enable rapid user productivity, cut the time needed to be productive with virtual prototypes to minutes. More than 30 CPAKs are available from Carbon-s IP Exchange web portal () and feature intellectual property (IP) cores from Carbon partners ARM, Arteris, MIPS and Cadence.
Carbon Design Systems offers the industry-s only unified virtual prototype solution along with the only solution for accurate IP model creation. Carbon virtual prototypes can execute at hundreds of MIPS and with 100% accuracy to enable application software development, detailed architectural analysis and secure IP model distribution. Only Carbon provides a solution which delivers a trusted path to accuracy. Carbon-s customers are systems, semiconductor, and IP companies that focus on wireless, networking, and consumer electronics. Carbon investors include Samsung Venture Investment Corporation and ARM Holdings. Carbon Design Systems is headquartered at 125 Nagog Park, Acton, Mass., 01720. Telephone: (978) 264-7300.
