On 11th December, Beak presented the results and findings of the on-going mineral prospectivity research project at the Ministry of Natural Resources (MINIRENA). Beginning of December, the field work phase of the extensive survey program targeted to unlock Rwanda?s unknown mineral wealth was finalised. Within the last year, a joint team of Beak Consultants GmbH (Germany), Council of Geoscience (South Africa) and Geology and Mines Department (GMD) of Rwanda Natural Resources Authority (RNRA) has geologically mapped an area of approx. 2000 km², taken a total of 4465 soil, stream sediment and rock samples, and surveyed almost one hundred kilometres of ground geophysical lines. Within the four survey areas of Kibungo, Nyagatare, Gitarama and Nyabisindu, only a few Tantalum and Tin mines have been operating until now. Despite the fact that approx. 1000 samples are still waiting for their analytics, encouraging results have been achieved. All new discoveries and conclusions are novel to the country enhancing the further development of the mineral sector of the entire country. Currently, all identified targets are being processed for final evaluation. Results will be submitted to RNRA and MINIRENA by March 2013.
