SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (Marketwire) — 12/13/12 — Inc., the leading provider of web application testing infrastructure for software developers, today announced Sauce Free Open Source Software accounts (Open Sauce), a new program offering open source developers free unlimited use of the Sauce Labs cloud for testing web applications.
The new program represents another Sauce Labs- contribution to the open source philosophy of providing code and services needed to develop and support projects that are free, openly available and community-driven. In keeping with that model, Open Sauce user test results will by default be publicly viewable on Sauce Labs.
“We benefit from open source software and we are significant contributors to open source projects like , Kernel Based Virtual Machine (KVM) and WD.js,” John Dunham, CEO of Sauce Labs, said. “Our business depends on open source and so we want to pay it forward by giving back to the open source community whenever possible. For example, it-s not well known, but Sauce Labs offers free use of our service to the Selenium Project, which uses us for integration testing of new Selenium releases. The Selenium Project benefits users by releasing more reliable, robust versions.”
“We saw the opportunity to generalize the success of what we-ve been doing for the Selenium Project to the broader open source community,” Dunham continued. “Offering this free service represents a huge benefit to developers of open source projects having web-facing components or which use JavaScript. We enable the virtuous cycle of better quality releases drawing faster user adoption, which in turn draws more community involvement to push the open source project forward.”
Sauce Labs offers automated and manual testing services for web and mobile web applications using a platform based on the open source software Selenium. The Sauce Labs system includes nearly 100 browser-operating system combinations, including the iOS and Android platforms for mobile web app testing.
The company-s popular Sauce automated testing service and Sauce manual testing offerings, such as Sauce for Mac, are used by organizations of all sizes including some of the largest consumer and enterprise brands. The Sauce testing cloud, a custom, instant cloud built and maintained by Sauce, executes two million tests each month — and is growing fast.
