Supertex-s New High Voltage, Analog Switch Occupies Less Board Space Than Electromechanical Relays in Medical Ultrasound Probes

SUNNYVALE, CA — (Marketwire) — 12/06/12 — Supertex (NASDAQ: SUPX), a recognized leader in high voltage analog and mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs), today introduced the HV2809, a thirty-two channel, high voltage, analog switch IC designed for use in medical ultrasound imaging systems as a probe selection device. It replaces the typical electromechanical relays performing the probe selection function and takes up less printed circuit board (PCB) area, emits no audible noise and increases system reliability.

The HV2809 serves as a sixteen-pole, double throw (16PDT), high voltage switch array. Using Supertex-s proprietary HVCMOS technology, the IC efficiently controls analog signals with low power CMOS logic and high voltage bilateral DMOS switches. It features a very low quiescent current of 10µA for low power dissipation and a bandwidth frequency of up to 50MHz. The HV2809 also has an enable logic control, which allows it to be configured for 2:1 or 4:1 ultrasound probe select.

“Using the HV2809 to control medical ultrasound probes offers a number of advantages over electromechanical relays,” states Jimes Lei, Director of Application Engineering for Supertex. “As technology moves forward and medical ultrasound systems become more compact, replacing the mechanical relays with the HV2809s will reduce board area, component height, and system weight.”

The HV2809 is available in an 8x8x1mm 56-lead QFN package (HV2809K6-G). The part is RoHS compliant. Samples are available from stock. Lead-time for production quantities is 4-6 weeks ARO. Pricing is US$14.51 each for the HV2809K6-G in 1K quantities.

Supertex, Inc. is a publicly held mixed signal semiconductor manufacturer, focused on high voltage analog and mixed signal products for use in the medical, LED lighting, printer and display, industrial and telecommunications industries.
