MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — (Marketwire) — 12/04/12 — , provider of a new class of high-performance flash-based storage systems, today announced that , the award winning consortium IT venture that supports charities such as Age UK, The Alzheimer-s Society, and The Children-s Society with their IT infrastructure requirements, has chosen Violin, in partnership with Capita IT services, to provide a flash storage solution for its Virtualised Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) deployment.
Charityshare required a storage solution to support their simulated production environment of 800-2,000 concurrent users. Violin Memory stepped up to the challenge with its dual gateway 3000 Series array. The Violin solution successfully supported the Proof of Concept (POC) phase with 2,000 concurrent user sessions and Charityshare contracted with Violin Memory to support the VDI deployment at Age UK, one of its charities.
By investing in flash storage for its VDI implementation, offering a solution that is faster and provides lower latency than traditional magnetic disk media, Charityshare further demonstrates its commitment to providing charities with practical, effective and economic IT solutions.
Greg Cooke, engineering manager for Charityshare, comments, “For Age UK-s desktop refresh we took the decision to implement the VDI application with dedicated storage for greater control and performance. Violin-s Flash Memory Arrays could support a demanding environment of 2,000 users and came in on budget; for us it ticked all the boxes.”
Cooke adds, “The Violin team had the kit configured and working within half a day for the POC phase. Our engineers were excited from the start of the engagement through the successful POC. We are confident that the flash-based solution is the right fit for us and our charities.”
“Charityshare is a great venture and a flagship UK account for Violin,” said Garry Veale, managing director for Violin Memory EMEA. “We-re honored to be helping to transform the organisation-s IT infrastructure with a flash storage solution, in keeping with their ethos of innovative solutions.”
Charityshare evaluated several competitors before selecting Violin Memory in conjunction with Capita-s IT services business. “We tested several other flash solutions but went with Violin for its performance ability whilst at full storage capacity,” said Cooke.
