London, UNITED KINGDOM November 20, 2012 – The Mikogo online meeting software has been officially certified for Windows 8 by Microsoft and has been added as a new desktop application to the Windows Store. Users can browse the Store and add the Mikogo app as a square tile to their Windows 8-style user interface, providing easy access for users to start and join online meetings on Windows 8.
The Mikogo desktop sharing software was successfully tested earlier this year on the pre-release version of Microsoft’s new operating system, confirming its compatibility with the Windows 8 beta release. Microsoft then officially launched its new Windows 8 operating system just at the end of last month, and in the same week the Windows Store made its official debut. For Mikogo to be included in the Windows Store, the software application was taken through the “Certified for Windows 8” program which used Microsoft’s platform development tools to confirm Mikogo’s compatibility with Windows 8.
Now with the inclusion of Mikogo in the Windows Store, its place has been cemented as an official desktop sharing service for Windows 8. Users of the new operating system can start or join Mikogo meetings and share screens in real-time with participants on previous versions of Windows, as well as on Mac and Linux computers. This has provided an easy-to-use cross-platform solution for online meetings and remote support on the latest Windows OS, which Microsoft has stated is the biggest operating system update for the company in 17 years.
“The launch of the Windows Store quickly provided widespread access to thousands of apps. However inclusion in the Store is only possible if the software works on Windows 8,” explains Matthias Litz, Mikogo’s Product Development Manager. “Therefore the compatibility of our software with the new operating system was essential to ensure Mikogo would receive the Microsoft Windows 8 desktop app certification and be available to all Windows 8 users.”
Early adopters of Windows 8 PCs can now download Mikogo directly from the Store on their computer as a desktop application. Further information on Mikogo’s desktop sharing solution can be found at http://www.mikogo.com.
