OTTAWA, ONTARIO — (Marketwire) — 10/26/12 — At any given time there are upwards of 1,400 Boil Water Advisories (BWAs) in Canada. The Water Chronicles checks all media and provincial sources on a daily basis to keep its boil water advisory maps current. Today, there are 13 new advisories across Canada; 2 in BC, 1 in Saskatchewan, 6 in Nova Scotia, 3 in Newfoundland Labrador and 1 Do Not Consume advisory in Quebec.

BWAs in BC include the Robson Well water system in Belcarra (no reason given), and the Mara Lake system in Sicamous, where the boil water advisory due to high turbidity has been downgraded to a Water Quality Advisory which mainly affects infants, elderly and immune deficient residents.

In Saskatchewan, Candle Lake is under advisory due to a watermain break. Maintenance or repairs is the reason for the advisories in Cupids, Brigus and Happy Valley-Goose Bay, in Newfoundland Labrador .

The Do Not Consume advisory in Notre-Dame-du-Portage, Quebec was caused by a break in an old pipe which led to loss of pressure, discoloration and low chlorination.

In Nova Scotia, where there are some 1,600 small public systems, all 6 advisories are in individual systems: St. Joseph-du-Moine Parish Hall, the Orangedale Water Society in Iron Mines, the East Chester Recreation Centre, the Bay St.Lawrence Community Centre and the Lake Breeze Campground in Darlings Lake.
