Cambridge Broadband Networks and NEC Deliver High-Capacity Enterprise Access for QSC

CAMBRIDGE, UNITED KINGDOM — (Marketwire) — 10/24/12 — Cambridge Broadband Networks (CBNL) and NEC Europe Ltd. have today announced a major agreement with QSC to provide high-speed wireless internet access to its enterprise customers. QSC, among the leading mid-size providers of ICT services in Germany, is installing CBNL-s equipment to meet the high-capacity internet demands of its enterprise customers across several cities in Germany. QSC-s initial deployment will consist of VectaStar access points and remote terminals, using the available 26GHz spectrum.

“We required a solution that could not only satisfy current capacity requirements but one that could be easily enhanced to deliver the inevitable increase in speed and capacity demanded by enterprises in the near future,” commented Mr. Bodo Plieth, Director Wireless Networks at QSC. “Rapid and cost effective scalability is also critical and with VectaStar we have a solution that enables us to quickly address the requirements of new customers and to minimise the associated capital and operational costs.”

VectaStar utilises available spectrum to aggregate data over the air and to dynamically handle peaks in data traffic to maintain a consistent quality of service. As well as efficiently using the available spectrum, the unique system architecture requires approximately half the radios of traditional point-to-point microwave. Those factors allow enterprise access and mobile backhaul networks to be rapidly and economically deployed and upgraded to meet new customer requirements.

“QSC has set about upgrading its existing enterprise access infrastructure and required a high-capacity solution that would provide the flexibility needed to quickly provision connectivity in city and urban environments to offer their competitive business solutions. VectaStar-s multipoint microwave architecture is ideally suited to this task, enabling QSC to provision links and services in a matter of hours as opposed to days,” commented Peter Norton, Global Account VP at Cambridge Broadband Networks.

Mr. Gunther Jugl-Curths, responsible Sales Director DACH & Benelux at NEC Deutschland added, “The agreement with QSC is the latest to arise from our partnership with Cambridge Broadband Networks. Over the past two years we have jointly helped to establish multipoint microwave as one of the key enabling technologies for wireless access and backhaul. As the demand for greater data capacity continues to rise, we expect to capitalise on the market opportunity and look forward to working even closer with CBNL.”
