IRVINE, CA — (Marketwire) — 10/05/12 — Sage North America today announced that it has been accepted as a member of the Construction Open Software Alliance (COSA), a new organization dedicated to empowering better sharing of information between all project participants in the construction industry regardless of the systems they use.
The need for a common set of standards has grown as technology has played a larger role in the construction industry. The Associated General Contractors of America developed the in 2008 as the first effort to standardize and encourage the efficient exchange of data between solutions in the industry. Many industry technology providers have not yet adopted the standard. By gathering providers together to champion this standard, as well as other draft standards, it is COSA-s aim to encourage broader adoption and collaboration throughout the industry.
“COSA-s effort to build a community of software developers and providers who support the transfer of cross-application data is a major step forward for the construction industry,” said Dennis Stejskal, vice president of product management at Sage Construction and Real Estate. “Sage supports the agcXML concept. As a technology vendor, we don-t have the attitude of doing it all ourselves, and want to make it as easy as possible for our customers to win new projects and get new business. By enabling our solutions, like , to work with other software systems, we remove that potential barrier, so our customers can submit and respond to RFIs and other documents no matter the software system another building team member is using.”
was officially launched during the opening keynote of the Associated General Contractors of America IT Forum Conference in Chicago in August 2012. Its membership features key technology providers in the construction industry.
“Our goal in starting this organization was to get a diverse group of influential software providers in the industry, and Sage is definitely one of those,” said James Benham, president of JB Knowledge Technologies, makers of SmartBidNet, and a fellow COSA member. “With a spread of accounting, estimating, and project management software all under its belt, Sage will bring an invaluable level of experience and depth to the Alliance. We-re excited to add another large group of end users to those who will benefit from COSA integration standards.”
