(S4M) Cologne, April-14, 2009 – Cologne based S4M – Solutions for Media, the foremost provider of integrated broadcast management solutions today announced the integration of StorNext File System and Storage Manager with S4M’s digital media management system VPMS.
The integrated solutions provide a fully file based digital workflow with direct shared connectivity for Apple, Windows, Linux and Unix based applications. This allows for real time concurrent 4K workflows, now demanded by companies working in HD environments. Flexibility in performance and savings in resource allocation are allowed, because customers can choose their preferred applications and platforms for each part of the workflow.
The solutions are underpinned by StorNext Storage Manager, which expands storage pools into multi-tier archives including digital tape, automatically moving and copying content between different storage resources to significantly reduce costs and protect content.
Designed for media and entertainment companies, StorNext streamlines workflow processes and enables faster completion of projects. Using StorNext, applications running on different operating systems (Windows, Linux, UNIX and Mac OS X) can simultaneously access and modify files on a common SAN storage pool. This centralised storage solution eliminates slow file transfers between workstations and dramatically reduces delays caused by single client failures.
StorNext also includes archive functionality to reduce the cost of long term data retention, without sacrificing accessibility. Using Quantum-s iMover technology, StorNext Storage Manager transparently migrates digital assets to a secondary storage tier of disk or tape. This enables customers to store more files at a lower cost without having to reconfigure applications to retrieve data from multiple locations. StorNext also performs a variety of data protection services to guarantee that content is safeguarded both onsite and offsite.
S4M’s Video Production Management System (VPMS) provides for the professional management of the broadcaster’s digital video assets – from acquisition through versatile production schemes to playout, distribution or archive. VPMS makes sure that all media is available at the right time and in the right place.
Holger Noske, Vice President Digital Media Management at S4M: “We are extremely satisfied to partner with Quantum. Together, we are able to offer our customers the combined knowledge of a long-standing specialist for optimizing workflows and archiving and S4M who’s an expert in software solutions that are specialized on the broadcast industry.”
