AUSTIN, TX — (Marketwire) — 06/04/12 — Due to its industry leading energy efficiencies, Active Power CleanSource UPS (uninterruptible power supply) technology has met specific energy performance criteria as set forth by the Netherlands- Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture, and Innovation, making it eligible for the Energy Investment Allowance (EIA).
As a result, for-profit organizations based in the Netherlands can now deduct 41.5 percent of the purchase of CleanSource UPS from pre-tax profit in the calendar year in which the investment was made. The net savings from the gross deduction is approximately 13.5 percent. The tax benefit is applicable for the capital cost of the UPS equipment as well as costs for delivery, installation, commissioning, and project management.
“This tax incentive increases the value of our CleanSource UPS product line to customers in the Netherlands, enabling them to more easily take advantage of the inherent benefits of the product in their mission critical environment,” said Doug Milner, president and CEO, at Active Power. “Our high efficiency flywheel based UPS aligns well with what the Netherlands ministry is trying to accomplish, encouraging organizations to invest in efficient, sustainable technologies.”
“Along with a 75 percent reduction in carbon footprint versus conventional systems, CleanSource UPS delivers up to 60 percent total cost of ownership savings due to its high energy efficiencies and low maintenance costs,” continued Milner. “Put simply, the system is a green choice that provides a tangible economic advantage for the customer.”
The EIA scheme was established by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture, and Innovation and came into effect on Jan. 1, 1997. The scheme is managed by the NL Agency and the Netherlands- taxing authority.
The government uses the EIA scheme to encourage Dutch industry to invest in energy saving techniques and to use sustainable energy options such as solar energy, wind energy, and energy from biomass. The Energy List 2012 contains a list of specific investments that have proven in practice they meet the energy performance criteria eligible for EIA support.
Similar to the Netherlands- EIA scheme, CleanSource UPS is also part of the Energy Technology List, which is managed by the Carbon Trust on behalf of the United Kingdom government. This endorsement enables UK businesses that purchase CleanSource UPS to benefit from a 100 percent first year capital allowance on their investment against taxable profits.
