More Than 6,000 People Expected at Third Annual VidCon to Be Held June 28-30 at Anaheim Convention Center

LOS ANGELES, CA — (Marketwire) — 04/16/12 — Online video is now the fastest growing source for entertainment in America. The average American spends almost two hours on YouTube each week and there are more than four billion videos watched globally every day. Along with this growth there has come a huge impact, both culturally and economically. Online video is now serious business, but not so serious that those in the industry are above having a good time. On June 28, thousands of people will descend on Anaheim, California, for the third annual VidCon, the premier conference and community gathering for online video.

In addition to attracting audiences that rival and often exceed traditional media such as movies and television, online video has become a multi-billion dollar industry that has forever changed the way people think of and view entertainment. The event, which is open to the public, will take place June 28-30 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The event will be attended by the fans, leaders, companies and celebrities that make-up the world of online video. Tickets can be purchased online at .

The main conference, which includes a variety of concerts, meet-ups, keynotes, panel dicussions and other programming, will be held Friday June 29 and Saturday June 30. The event will be preceeded by a special Industry Day on Thursday June 28 for people who are in the online video industry. This provides a chance for people on both sides of the camera to get together and discuss where the business is headed.

“VidCon has been really lucky to be at the center of this new industry. Online video, right now, is at a very important moment. There-s so much excitement, so much potential, and so much talent,” said Hank Green, creator of the event. “Every day, billions of videos are watched online. Many of the creators at VidCon have larger audiences than successful cable shows. VidCon is about giving those people a chance to talk about, celebrate and enjoy the new world they are creating.”

Since its inception in 2010, VidCon has grown exponentially with approximately 1,200 people attending the first year, 2,500 the second year and now more than 6,000 expected this year. Event sponsors include YouTube, Revision 3, Maker, blip.tv, machinima.com and several other companies in the online video arena.

Among the online video celebrities expected to be on hand for panel sessions, concerts and personal meet-ups are: Alex Day, Charlie McDonnell, Dave Days, DeStorm, Hank and John Green, iJustine, Meekakitty, Michael Buckley, Mitchell and Kyle, Mystery Guitar Man, Phil DeFranco, Rhett and Link, Shane Dawson, Shay Carl, Smosh and Wheezy Waiter.

By 2014, annual online video ad spending is expected to increase from $1.97 billion to $5.71 billion. There are currently 239 million Americans who use the Internet, which accounts for approximately 76 percent of the U.S. population. YouTube, the leading online video site in the world, is the second most visited site in the U.S. with the average person spending 15 minutes per day on the site. Globally, there are four billion video views every day on YouTube and one hour of video is uploaded to YouTube every second, which equals 100 years of video every ten days.

A limited number of tickets are still available and can be purchased at . Industry tickets, which include access to the full conference plus Industry Day, are available for $350; Community tickets that provide admission to the full conference are $100 and Expo Passes for admission into the Expo Hall only (not the conference programming) can be purchased for $35.
