BARCELONA, SPAIN and SANTA BARBARA, CA — (Marketwire) — 02/27/12 — , the market leader in embedded Internet Protocol (IP) communications software platforms, today announced it has been working with NVIDIA to develop seamless handover of voice calls from an LTE network to a circuit-switched WCDMA 3G network, and vice versa, using Single Radio Voice Call Continuity (SRVCC) with HD voice-quality (known as AMR-WB or Adaptive Multi-Rate-Wideband).
The combination of NVIDIA-s state-of-the-art Icera 410 LTE modem with D2-s 4G, a converged 4G mobile communications client for VoLTE and rich communications (RCS) video calling, yields a complete solution with SRVCC capability. This technology enables handset OEMs to give consumers a seamless voice experience, regardless of network type.
Steve Allpress, vice president of mobile communications software at NVIDIA, said: “Our VoLTE SRVCC demo shows how operators can deliver next-generation voice solutions on LTE networks. NVIDIA-s unique soft modem technology allows us to develop new cellular technologies faster. This demonstration reinforces the capabilities that our innovative solutions are bringing to market.”
“Although the industry is making great strides toward the global adoption of 4G LTE, it will be some time before 4G coverage surpasses current 2G/3G coverage,” noted Doug Makishima, chief operating officer for D2 Technologies. “Our joint VoLTE SRVCC solution with NVIDIA enables 4G mobile devices to provide seamless voice service across 4G LTE and 3G/2G legacy networks — giving operators time to build out LTE networks while continuing to leverage their existing networks.”
